Community Event / Creation How To Host The Abraka Drabble Show

So, as Psykokow is a very busy man, and is keen for anyone to volunteer to host the drabble show ... and as I volunteered to host it ... learning how is a new experience for both myself, and I'd say, Psykokow. Yes, he's been doing it for however long he's been doing the weekly stream for, but I'm writing this from the point of view of someone who wants to host the drabble show and wants to know what's involved. Anyone thinking of giving it go might find this thread useful.

Firstly ... what do you need?

You'll need ...

A Twitch.tv account
Streaming software, eg OBS, Xsplit etc
A media player for video and music eg VLC
Teamspeak 3
Voicemeeter Banana

If you're using a webcam, I'll assume you have that setup and ready to go, a green screen behind you, and know how to use chroma key in your streaming software.

I'll assume here you have all this set up and ready to go. I'll not go into how to set these up here, as you can find this information better online than I could explain it here.

Drabble Stuffs

You'll also need some drabble assets ...

Holding page
Intro video
background video
outro video
screen of dreams
drabble slides

Apart from the drabble slides, you'll either need to create these yourself or ask Psykokow nicely for them.

Making the drabble slides

The drabble slides are the text that goes over the screen of dreams to show the drabble on-screen.
You'll need to spend a few days before the show, preparing the slides.
Open the screen of dreams image in an image editor, I use GIMP, but any image editor will do.
Create a text layer over the screen.
Type in the drabble number, the author and the title. Colour these red. Make it bold
Copy & paste the drabble text in with a one line gap under the title. Colour the text white and make it bold.

You should at this point, have something like this:

How%20to%20slides.jpg

Delete the screen layer and export the drabble slide as a png. Name it something like Drabble 01 (or whatever number the drabble is).

Then when you have saved it to a folder for the drabble show (you did create a folder for the drabble show, didn't you?) undo the delete screen layer.
Now find the next drabble on the forum and copy the main text.
Highlight the main text on the image editor and paste the new drabble into it.
Change the number, author and title, then delete the screen layer and export it again

Keep doing that, until you've done all the drabbles, which you won't know until Friday morning. Don't leave doing this until the last minute.

Create an image .png file for the drabble image, which you can get if it gets posted on the forum.

Setting up the stream

In your streaming software, add scenes for everything, holding page, video, each drabble (has it's own scene), the topic image ... you get the idea. You need to do this because you'll need to switch between each thing, and you can do this in your streaming software. I use OBS and it's simply a case of ticking and unticking boxes. In OBS whatever is above in the list is above in the overlay layers on the stream, so the drabbles need to be above the screen of dreams in the list.

On the night, you'll need to be logged into Teamspeak, make sure OBS streams everything and streams you talking on teamspeak. Make sure Voicemeeter Banana works, test changing between all the different scenes you have listed ... then pray that when you go live it all works with as few mistakes as possible. If you do it right, you'll make it look easy just like Psykokow does.

And that is basically, how it's done.
