how to identify stations in unexplored system

help a noob
Stations in the system should show up in your navigation panel, select it and head to it as per usual (unless this has been changed since January, then again Im on pc)

If it has been changed, then you need to fire off your discovery scanner- it will identify all objects in the system if it is an advanced discovery scanner, but only objects within a 500 ls radius if it is a basic

Actually, stations are a great way to discover planets as a beginner explorer. Go there and they're usually orbiting planets (or stars) at way less than 500ls radius.

Since the launch of Horizons, some systems appear on the galaxy map as having a population but no stations on the system map. These are planetary colonies.... which we'll eventually see when we can drop in on planets :)

Confusing places are some tourist systems, been too a few that all it is as a outpost orbiting a solitary star. I don't know about you but a holiday there sounds a bit crap, no beach ,no sight seeing and no cheap tourist shop

planets show up but no stations, even after advanced discovery scan

And remember that not all systems have stations, even in the bubble..

Hard to imagine 47 jumps and no stations in 15 separate unexplored systems. Flew toward some planets that show up in navigation screen indented, like station names usually do. Nothing was discovered after close up scan. The galaxy map shows multiple planets, but no stations. No option to buy data. There may not be a way to force them to appear. Just wondering if there is a way to make them appear. Wondering now if it could be a software issue. I have seen the galaxy map not allow me to get info on rings and stations, but after restarting game it worked as normal. I'll see and report back.

Thanks for all the ideas. I am so low on fuel I cabnnot jump to Gliese 1269. So sacrifical destruction may be next step. Good thing I have 28 million P)

First off... fuel rats, or a friendly Cmdr who'll rescue you with some fuel limpets. Secondly, the data you're seeing is from planetary bases. Since Horizons, there's a few of them around although we haven't any access to them.
