Newcomer / Intro how to identify stations in unexplored system?

You should see little icons for the stations even if you don't have the system data.

Which system are you in? It's possible there simply isn't a station there. There are a lot of unexplored systems like that!

i don't see any icons i recognize from known systems. i have tried traveling to indented unexplored ones but didn't find any stations.

This has happened to me (I have Horizons) even after using ADS and no Stations/Outposts show up in the Contacts Panel although they do show on the System Map when you select the Mission Givers Contact Link to the destination - although still NOT on the Nav Panel. It is BUGGED!
.
MODs can you add this to the Bug Reports for 2.1 please.

Which systems are you in? I can check to see if there ARE any stations there!

If there is a station there, then the left hand panel will show 'natural' features as a box then UNEXPLORED, whereas human-made structures with a little icon and (I think) a name. An outpost is like a box with a TV ariel off it, and a station is an outline Coriolis station.

@Exterminator - here is the bug forum for you - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=178

thxs Yaffle, i'm not playing right now but this has been an issue for me ever since I started mapping systems with ADS. System map is also blank, no stations shown. I have logged off and restarted game several times as a work around I discovered awhile back when the system map would not show any info on station when highlighted. With no success. I was unsure how it was supposed to work. Thought I had to by system data from galaxy map, although that availability is very limited.

Hmm, system map should not be blank after an Advanced Discovery Scanner scan and boing!

A couple of things to check:

1) you are letting the ADS finish, so you've assigned it to a fire group and held down the 'fire' button until you hear it finish its sweep (you'll also see an orange bar fill below its HUD description)
2) You're sure there are stations in the system concerned - such as being given a mission to one.

The nature of the game is that there are waaaaaaaaaaaaay more uninhabited systems than inhabited ones. A blank system map after an ADS scan sounds wrong.

Which game version are you using?

yes i am allowing ads to finish scan and boing, i am certain that no stations show up in nav panel, all discovered objects are tagged unexplored. i don't always check system map, but i have many times especially when thinking about fuel. i am exploring quite a bit, (trailblazer) and presumed that a system with 52 objects might have a good chance of a station or port, but you are the expert

Once you are outside the 'bubble' of humanity there is nothing station-wise at all.

You'll be outside somewhere between 300 and 400LY from Sol. Things get sparse as you get further out.

If you are, say, 1,000LY from Sol there should be nothing at all. Until Jaques flies to Beagle Point, some 65,000LY away.

I have been hanging around cg at Neits, and jacques station so really not too far out on the edge. Most jumops so far 37 to destination.

My guess is that you're in uninhabited space then, it gets quite diffuse quite quickly. Neits is only 70-ish LY from Sol, but add 37 jumps to that at (say) 20LY each pops you easily 700LY out. If you mean 37 jumps from Beagle Point, then you are way out beyond humanity.

I don't think Jaques has jumped to Beagle Point yet, so he's still really close to humanity!

i started checking every new system after firing ads, and the expert was again correct, stations appeared amongst the unexplored tags. thxs again Yaffle!
