How to improve travel time without ruining exploration

So, exactly the same as the OP, only with the need for a special FSD and no requirement restricting it to already visited systems.

This was actually the core idea.
  • Your first trip to Colonia or the other side of the Galaxy should not be impacted.
  • Restricting it to system you had fully scanned meant that you invested some time on the journey along the way, not just waltz through each system. The reward was a faster trip back home.
  • Having this take an internal slot meant that their was some trade off to using it and you probably wont want to do it for a bubble fighter or miner.
That seemed like the most elegant way to address the tediousness of traveling known path while not impacting new discovery too much.

The sense of achievement you get from exploration in the game is great. I can't think of any other game where you have the equivalent of the distant world expedition.

However travel time are a big downer when you are just getting from point A to point B without doing anything. You first trip to Colonia is an adventure, but your 5th run just feel like a grind.

So how about introducing something like this :

Precision frame shift computer : Optional internal component that double the jump range IF you already have a detailed scan of the target system.

So basicly the first time you go somewhere you go at the current speed, but if you take the time to fully scan the system your next run goes a lot faster. You don't ruin the exploration of new area but greater reduce the grind for where you already explored.

I don't know if this has been suggested before but at first glance it look to me like best of both world.
