Newcomer / Intro How to Interact Using Data link Scanner

Firstly, make sure you have all the controls for your SRV configured so you know what you're doing.
Drive up to the tower in your SRV.
Stop.
Swap to the SRV turret.
Aim at the data node and target it in the same way you'd target another ship in space.
Press (and hold) your secondary-fire button to scan the data link.
Beyond that, I find the key to success in those situations is to be methodical to avoid stress.
Aim your SRV at the data terminal from a safe distance.
That way you can roll straight in, park and then stick it in reverse and roll straight back out again if something starts shooting at you.
Also, apply the parking-brake when you stop so your SRV doesn't start rollin away while you're targeting the data link.
Lastly, you can still drive the SRV from the turret so, to speed things up, you can swap to the turret and then drive to the data point so you're ready to do the scan as soon as you are in position.

Its best sometimes to do the tutorials. This is in there. Thats the easiest way to see wich buttons are involved for this task.

Question 1 - Are you in a surface vehicle? If not you need a hangar bay which can be found at most High-Tech economy stations (class 2 or above module) then make sure you also buy the vehicle in the open slot(s). Panel between your legs to deploy when landed.
Question 2 - Have you mapped the datalink scanner to a firegroup? - Check 2nd tab of right hand panel to see
Question 3 - Did you target the tower you wish to scan, is it a white icon and are you in range?
Question 4 - Are you in turret mode? <- Not a requirement but to stay "on target" for the scan to finish is almost impossible without this. Press and hold, wait until the bar fills.

FWIW, I have the controls for my SRV all bound to my throttle (I steer it using a mini mouse-pointer) and then have all my SRV turret controls bound to my joystick.
It feels a bit weird at first, and I'm not going to win any SRV races with it, but I've found you don't really need intuitive control of the SRV, itself.
You just need a way to steer it to wherever you're going and then aim it so you can go straight forward to do something and then straight backward to get away from any trouble you've stirred up.
Related to that, I always make sure that there's no big rocks directly behind me so I have a clear path of retreat, backwards, without worrying where I'm going.
Also, don't overlook the usefulness of thrusters on your SRV.
I've seen quite a few bases which seem to have ramps and roadways intended to try to lead you past dangerous-looking blaster cannons.
Far better to use your thrusters to just hop up to your destination and then hop back down to the planet surface rather than trying to navigate your way along the roads and ramps, especially if the cannons are shooting at you.

Hello I did as you mention, but It does not work for me, I use a scanner very oftern and now how to use it, but when I want to use the scan the data link it will not scan, any idea what have I done wrong?
Check the data link is active...that's important, on some bases if you have already scanned them, they only reset after a week...it stops players from spamming them for the engineering mats...try a different base on a different planet, check the security level first tho....
I think he means the data link tower you are targeting, some of them only become active when you get close to them.
yes I am very close and it becomes active and I press a key which I assgin to scan it does not work , by the way I could not selected the outline normally I use another key to select a outline.
Are you holding the button? This was my mistake when I first tried this and it was not working.
I did both meaning holding and not holding it, and I could not select the outline,
so have you solved your issue, if yes how do you do that?
Yes, issue was solved. You can set the fire group binding in the same way that you would do this on your ship: via the right hand panel. As I have only one weapon on the srv and one scanner, I used only one firegroup and set the laser to '1' and the scanner to '2'. And as said in another post, you do need to use the turret and target the data point before using the scanner.
I would also recommend going to the options menu and checking whether all the key/hotas bindings for driving an srv are set up.

I checked all the key/hotas bindings for driving an srv are set up, and doing exactly as you mention above but still does not work, will it be possible to put a printscreen how do you do that one firegroup, I did just like you did so laser to "1" and the scanner to "2"
but just to make sure what kind of scanner do I have to use ? I have advance scanner but on the right side panel I see as data link scanner.
