How to keep System Map 2D in VR?

Playing on the VIVE and going to System map displays map ok but mouse pointer doesn't line up with display items, planets, etc.
Additionally moving head/HMD around causes a disconnect between map items and mouse pointer - meaning it's not clear what's selected.

So, how do I get something like a flat view in VR?

Thanks.

Are you using MK+B? Cause the map is much easier to use in VR if you do the binds on a gamepad or HOTAS. Not sure about making it 2D though, sorry.

You can't.

Your best bet is to open up the Galmap, go to the last tab and enable 'Grid Mode'. After this you will want to set up binds for all of the Galmap functions, you can use a game pad, HOTAS or even set them to keys on your keyboard if you don't have either of those.

TIP: Zooming out will make grid modes cursor move much faster in both the Gal and Sys maps. So be sure to configure binds for that.

The mouse pointer simply does not work in VR.

Period.
It usually doesn't even align right in the main menu.
Quicker you stop relying on it the better.

What Tor said ^^ When I have a need to map a long way I just bump out of VR, open on screen, map the route. Jump back in VR. Yes it's a bit of a pain but it's a heckuva lot faster than wasting my time wondering why the mouse pointer goes away when I move it in the VR map.

seriously it has been asked so many times it should be a sticky named "using galaxy map in VR".

And @MarcoBolo it is even faster if you bind it to HOTAS controls like Cylonsurfer outlined.

lus there is a ton of videos on using galaxy map in VR. Just put those literal words in Google. Why Fdev didn't at least patch the it to make the grid mode in VR more obvious or didn't do a tutorial on using galaxy map in VR is Beyond(tm) me...

Doesn't seem like you agree with TorTorden at all judging from the rest of your post.

Why you feel the need to remove yourself from VR to use the Galmap is beyond me. It would suggest that you do not have your Galmap configured correctly for VR game play - see my other post in this thread for more information. Insistance on using the mouse, in the long run, will only make you suffer in VR and drive you to remove the HMD which is totally not needed if you spend a little time to configure your Galmap binds and get used to how the Galmap works in VR.

When I play, I put on my HMD at the start of my play session and it does not get removed until I have finished playing or I need a quick break. I have 0 issues using any of the ingame tools in VR as they're all configured correctly. It is even possible to use out of game tools in VR (if that is your bag) via Oculus Dash (Rift users) or OVRDrop (SteamVR users).

Configure your Sysmap + Galmap binds to a HOTAS, Game pad or your keyboard and also enable 'Grid Mode' in the Galmap. Do not use the mouse for any bind relating to either the Sysmap or Galmap..

Posts 2 & 3 offered you the solution to this problem.

Ok, thanks... I'll give it a go.

Technically it should work as camera pan and zoom.
