How to know which species can be contained by water?

Correct me if I'm wrong but it was my understanding that one of the features of the game was that some animals could be contained with natural barriers like water, that some of them won't/can't swim?

If this is true how would I know which species can't swim or can be contained by using water?

Thank you! Could you also please add filter options to the Zoopedia so we could easily find those species, or all species from a specific country or biome, or social vs. solitary animals, species that can share their habitat with others, shy, walkthrough-friendly, etc.? That would be such a big help.
