Newcomer / Intro how to locate asteroid belts

in some system maps I see asteroid belts, but i cant seem to fly to them as there not in my nav marker do I have to scan them down and if so how

You should just be able to drop out of supercruise on them like normal - they're listed in the Navigation section as opposed to Contacts.

Use your discovery scanner. If you're within 500 lightseconds or so it'll detect any uncharted astronomical objects, including asteroid belts.

thanks, will a systems map always show was in the system, for example when I click a star and the system map just shows a sun. is thats all thats in there.

No, not necessarily. You only know what your exploration data tells you. Some systems may only be a star or two (or 3 or 5) while some other systems might show as only a star but have planets and things you need to explore.

If you see the Asteroid belt in the System Map it should show in the Navigation section of the Left UI. Lock on to it and you should be able to find it in supercruise.

If this isn't the case, could you post a couple screenshots?

I defiantly found a system map that showed an asteroid belt and the only way for me to get to it was to d scan it down. I am just wondering if you can find system maps that just show a sun but in reality theres planets and belts

Yep, you only have data on certain systems, the rest you have to explore or buy data on (which I don't think is working at the moment). The good news is that if you scan some stuff, you can then sell the data at a station at least 20ly away!

I've personally cruised around a system that had an asteroid belt somewhere on the system map. Eventually found it, but I had to fly around the sun, following the orbit lines and trying to imagine where it might be - asteroid belts don't seem to be visible until you're in one, at the moment.
