My rank progression has been stalled for months so I thought I would try one of the rescue folks from burning station gigs. Seems there are no damaged stations or EDDB doesn't know about them. Are there better tools for locating these stations ? am I looking for the wrong thing? or is it that FD just forgot to put any in since space legs dropped??

Galnet has a Thargoid activity report with this info ingame.
The current set of one (1) burning station will not help you move your rank. Seeing as it's been months, perhaps it's time to try another rank-increasing activity instead of waiting indefinitely for an appropriate station.

Get to Robigo mines for Imperial Rank grinding passenger missions and make money doing it (think there is still an Imperial faction there).
Or while you are there, Ceos and Sothis courier missions for Federation.
Don't bother waiting for burning stations. They normally only last a week (unless the AXI squadrons are all playing a different game now).

This was an attempt to try something new. I have been just playing the game as many advise will produce some desired result, it aint working! I have done the Fed grind in the past but even that seems to have dried up.
I have been doing the passenger grind and yes good $$, 300 mill the last two nights, but I have not seen a single mission that would do anything for rank for anyone.

Inara also shows a summary of damaged stations on its Galaxy page. You'll find it in the lower portion of the Security Report shown at the top, right of the Galaxy page, just above the View Details button.
