How to look for possible places to land when you are out of the bubble.

I am out exploring in my ASP and I have a couple of SRV's with me.

I have a detailed surface scanner and know how to use it.

I know how to use the SRV and the wave scanner to find materials for Eng. use, etc.

What I would like to know i.; when out of the bubble and just exploring a planet is there a way to use the scanner on the ship to find a place to land to look for anything interesting or out of the ordinary, something worth finding like an alien crash site, etc.!

Unless things have changed recently the way to find anything of interest is to fly low (within a few kilometres) over the planet. Every so often you may see a blue circle appear on the sensor disk. This is a POI indicator (Point of Interest). Try to head for the middle, and then land (but be aware that, as you get close to the ground the blue will fade out), break out the buggy and start looking and watching the SRV wave scanner. Good luck.

Hold a wire coat hanger in each hand while flying over the planet, when they cross there is a poi!

In more seriousness ^^ what hellrazor said

Is there a particular planet type that is more likely to have these? Are their locations predetermined or are they spawning in response to the payer?

The POIs are not normally fixed, and occur at random in an instance. An exception is when you get a "Tip Off", where there will be something of interest at the location given within the message. It might be a few cargo canisters, it may be something worth a lot more.
