How to make multiple ships work best

Does any one know the nearest conflict zone to the founders world.

Do you have any tips on making multiple ships playable, especially in different scenarios?

I've just drummed up enough cash to buy a few small ships for different types of play in the systems around the Founders world.

I've purchased a side winder at Founders world for sight seeing in the area with some scanners.
An Eagle in a near by Anarchy system for when I fancy bounty hunting.
A stripped down Haluer to go between the systems where the ships are stored because of it's speed and range.
A viper that I want to try out in a near by conflict zone if I can find one.
A Python for making money on while I upgrade it and the otherships.
I'm not looking at going further than about than about 60 ly from the Founders world while I experiment with multiple ships.

Any suggestion, advice or ideas would be really welcome.

Thanks Chaps

Well I;ve been playing with multiple ships now and it's completely opened up a so many avenues to purse.

What I've found works well so far is to buy a Haulers and fit them out at places of interest where you station another ship. For instance an Eagle for bounty hunting in the area. A well fitted Haluer can do 100ly extremley quickly with a tiny fuel overhead compared to any of the others. This means you can change your game quickly from trading to hunting to war and so on very smoothly. Plus haulers based with your other ship you can always nip off and investigate things that pop up on GalNet.

Currently I have a Type-9 and Clipper stationed at TZ Arietis, the station stocks pretty much every upgrade and is near to my main Trade routes. I then have an Eagle,Cobra and Viper Nearby at various warzones. The rest of the ships are maxed Adders ( great long range shuttles between ships.. And lastly a whole bunch of sidewinders and Eagles that act as marker ships.

The marker ships allow me to see how far I am away from various systems by looking in the shipyard, all my marker ships are located at either high value trade routes, populated sites of interest or Stations for good upgrades. Have 39 ships so far.

Next step is to buy an ASP, fully upgrade it and keep it stationed somewhere good near the edge of populated space, ready for my first extreme long range trip into the void.

I started to have ships dotted around as I built up my hanger - but in the end felt I wanted all in one place - so bought sidey - added decent FSD and moved all ships to one station - I did sell the sideys after stripping them, but now want to add sidey/adder/hauler in a few places - I have gained one maxed of each ship - sidey to T-6, just got cash for good spec Asp - then will go for T-7 - I am not interested in any specific play type - do trade, defence, bounty not really PvP - just would like to get all ships - either D - for weight and distance - or B with some A for missions.

The nearest low level combat zone - 3 of them is Eravarenth near Celcius Station I think. MOB Eravarenth v Bunda Independants

You have to travel between ships in order to use em huh ?

I do. I use a hauler with just under 30ly range. It's cheaper on fuel by far and the fastest way to travel around between stations and investigate areas. Rather than fly around burning fuel and time the haluer does the job fast and cheap. I know have a few ships at different ports in the same system; one based at my trade source and a bounty hunter ship on an anarchy platform. So depending on my mood I can nip between the two for different game play.

Here's the loadout I'm using on my Hauler, The General 'Addison' Lee.

The hauler is the best shuttle ship IMO. It's also a credible entry level explorer.

Nice idea. +1

886 Centauri or whatever had one last time I checked a few days ago. It's one jump away for most ships.

There are more.

I've recently put combat Vipers at several hot spots around populated space (all built at Shinrarta). I have one parked near Achenar, one near Sol/Altair, and one in Lave. They are similar, but tailored to the location. My Lave Viper, for example, is only 99.3T because I was able to give it a D class FSD to save weight, as all the systems in proximity to Lave are very close together. It took about twenty jumps to get the ship there, but now that it's there, it one of the most potent fighters, ton for ton, that can be encountered.

I also have a few Hauler taxis, each with full D class gear, except for FSD, which is A. They also have A3 fuel scoops. ~35.4 LY jump range and never having to dock to refuel means I can get anywhere within 300LY of Shinrarta in minutes....preferably to a convenetly placed Viper, but if necessary I'll just go to a high-tech system near my destination and build a new ship, then sell it when I leave.

Cool. The thing that's getting me is a strategy to reduce the need to sell after use. Maybe something as simple as parking and returning to 'base' in a sidewinder / stripped down haluer?

I hope the get some time to look at multiple ships again after 1.1.

The multiple ships and haluer set-up has helped me locate some very cool places of interest and take a bigger part in Galaxy events rather than grinding. I think I've found a really good comfort zone in multiple ships and the grind has become a thing to pay bills. Getting the next biggest ship no-longer seems worth the effort when I can play lots of different game styles when I feel like it. The tipping point was really getting a Python to bring money in to pay for the fun to be had with multiple ships.

+1 to multiple ship ownership... it seems to be really overlooked by players and developers since it was introduced.

I'd say forgetting about your other ships is the best way to make it work.

Not sure what you mean? I've just had a very large glass of wine or two in a small warm room so I'm a bit slow.

How does forgetting about your multiple ships make multiple ships work?

just pretend it's not there and play with the one you're in. That will allow you to travel large distances without going "ugh now I can't switch ships anymore".

Having multiple ships makes the galaxy very, very tiny.

I have been using multiple ships as trade assistants.

Flying into an area of interest in my T9 then scouting every station within 30ly range with a fast, cheap nimble ship... If I find a good route between some stations, a sidewinder is parked up as a marker. I then do a bit of trading in the systems, perhaps some bounty hunting in a throw-away viper and when I am ready to move on, I just strip the ship down, leave it and move on in my T9 again.

I don't think I would store a decent ship, at least not without an option to have it brought to me.

I've found that it's actually made the galaxy and the game a lot bigger.

I think you've missed the point of the thread. How to make multiple ships work not how to fly a single ship. Done that, now I'm hoping we can get some advice and ideas around making multiple ships work.

So now I'm off to Istanu (see Gaknet) with an Eagle to fight some Pirates and can leave my trade ship parked next to me money source.. pythons are very expensive to maintain and fuel but can pay for a new Eagle in no time if I get a bally good beating.

I see your point. I hope you see what I mean about making multiple ships work?

The sidewinder as a marker is a great idea. The elite sticky note.

I use the Sidewinder as a "taxi" to go between my multiple ships. Once I get to the location of the ship I want to use I sell the Sidewinder. The lost of 10% of the purchase price of the Sidewinder on resell is nothing compared to the refueling cost of my Type6 or Cobra. My strategy has been to keep my Type 6 at/near my main trade route, while using my Cobra to complete missions for the Empire in near by space stations and systems. Its working so far as my Trader rank is "Merchant" while I'm listed as a "Midshipman" with the Federation. Admittedly, I'm not primary into trading but I have found a sweet route that nets me $2,600 in profit per round trip of 30LY. I reduce costs further by utilizing the best fuel scoop my Cobra can afford, since at this point it is being used as an exploration vessel. I hope you find this useful!

+1 to that. Do you upgrade any part of the sidewinder with perhaps D class modules or just take it as is? Not sure what the sell back price loss is on modules.

The hauler and the trader ship set-up is really working out for me.

Eagle based on an anarchy platform for bounty hunting fun near the federation station where my trade ship is so I can swap game play with no fuss,
Long range Hauler for going between places. They are all within 2 jumps of each other apart from the fight club marker.
A Cobra at the founders system to do pilot federation missions and build rep in the area.
Viper at V886 near the founders system at a conflict zone.
Sidewinder parked at LP 98-132 as a reminder post it note for the open play fight club sessions. I can now see how far the various systems I'm interested are. +1 great tip

I've found that I need to move my income source base about 150ly. That's one big trade ship, a fighter and a hauler.

This is when it seems to really go badly or does it? I'm not sure of the maths.

Hypothetically speaking,

Would it be cheaper to sell all three - A class a Cobra, D class Hauler and C lass Python and rebuy them at the other end rather than fly them individually?

No so hypothetically speaking. It looks like I have to sell two of the three and travel 150ly and rebuy when I set up my tent at the destination.

Which of the three should I hang on to? Not sure how much is lost in sell and rebuy compared to the fuel cost. I know a python chews up a lot in fuel but is it more or less than selling and buy a new one at the other end? I just dont know...

Any clever mathamagicans out there?

I've found replacing all fuel tanks on all my ships except a hauler with the smallest one possible and ensuring they all have good fuel scoops really keeps costs to a minimum.

The only exception is the hauler I use to taxi between them.
