The sidewinder as a marker is a great idea. The elite sticky note.
I agree, brilliant idea!

...Have 39 ships so far....
Next step is to buy an ASP, fully upgrade it and keep it stationed somewhere good near the edge of populated space, ready for my first extreme long range trip into the void.
I've found that I need to move my income source base about 150ly. That's one big trade ship, a fighter and a hauler.
This is when it seems to really go badly or does it? I'm not sure of the maths.
Hypothetically speaking,
Would it be cheaper to sell all three - A class a Cobra, D class Hauler and C lass Python and rebuy them at the other end rather than fly them individually?
No so hypothetically speaking. It looks like I have to sell two of the three and travel 150ly and rebuy when I set up my tent at the destination.
Which of the three should I hang on to? Not sure how much is lost in sell and rebuy compared to the fuel cost. I know a python chews up a lot in fuel but is it more or less than selling and buy a new one at the other end? I just dont know...
Any clever mathamagicans out there?
Rather than flying from your trading base to where you have parked the asp why not store the asp in your trading base, that way you can quickly reach whatever edge of space you want to?
Currently I have a Type-9 and Clipper stationed at TZ Arietis, the station stocks pretty much every upgrade and is near to my main Trade routes. I then have an Eagle,Cobra and Viper Nearby at various warzones. The rest of the ships are maxed Adders ( great long range shuttles between ships.. And lastly a whole bunch of sidewinders and Eagles that act as marker ships.
The marker ships allow me to see how far I am away from various systems by looking in the shipyard, all my marker ships are located at either high value trade routes, populated sites of interest or Stations for good upgrades. Have 39 ships so far.

How's this for an idea?
With the 10% sale loss thing for modules. Why not have a ship for swapping in and out all your spare modules. I wonder if it would be cost efficient? Hmmm...
