How to make the small ships SHINE! Getting CQC and ingame racing championship into the game

I mean, of course no-one play CQC when it is so limited and matchmaking sucks - not to mention its in-game effect is non-existent.

Make it a spectator sport with twitch tools and in-game tools for tuning into the "channel" it's shown at. Heck, allow us to jump between cameras across the track or pick a ship-cam similar to formula 1 has cams on their cars.

Add CQC and specific map championships at in-game locations
Sol orbital tracks
Mars dust bowls
Achenar heavy G tracks
Maia Xeno races
The Hutton endurance run (First, get there, THEN have a race)
The Colonia exodus racing league

Add different leagues

Stock
A-Rated
Engineered
Shieldless

Add different types
CQC
Unarmed racing
Armed racing with Cytoscramblers & Scramble spectrum (no damage, only malfunctions))
Destruction Derby (no guns, shields, only armour and ramming)
Wing based racing with teams (fuel and repair limpets to keep the team going)
Relay racing where we must move 1 tonne of cargo from A-B and split a wing between relay points

Make championships into CG's where you need X amount of wins to progress to the next one
Top 1000 goes to the next CG + reward money...
Top 500 goes to the second one...
Top 250 and so on...

Allow for Powerplay sponsorship to earn PP points by racing for your faction

Might even cause a pitch in ownership for that system towards a PP faction

Add new modules for racing
Thrusters with less speed bonus but improved Pitch/Roll/Yaw
Focused power distributor with a base bonus to engines
Collision resistant armour
Thrusters with a focus on improved belly maneuvering thrusters to counter high-g worlds
Thrusters with exceptional acceleration but poor pitch/roll/yaw

Seriously Frontier - we NEED this in the game because racing is FUN. And while players can organize their own races that is not the same thing.

Not to mention, I would love to see how Thargoids would react to our racing.

I was suggesting things like this nearly two years ago...

Combat Arenas
Dedicated zones where PvP is promoted. Rebuy costs would be covered to some degree too. With the event of CQC, I see no reason why it's mechanics couldn't be employed in such arenas too - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=110531

(Such areas should be few in number, probably in a single dedicated system?)

Time Trials
Offer courses which CMDRs can try and do in the shortest time - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=110009

This would be almost like developing a new game when it comes to spent development time. And it would probably still be unpopular because you wouldn't have the option to use your ship/fit from the main game. People play ED because it has open world content, no fun in doing some separated instances.

And Fdev would probably have to take money for it if they have to add so much content and mechanics.

It would be easy to get something like that in game quickly- and doable with missions.

Example:

Faction offers a rally race of sorts: you have to fly as fast as possible to nav points, scan them and move on to a destination. You get a time to beat and if you do you 'win' the prize.

You could do huge variations in them: drug running as fast as possible, 'Buckyball' lite races, race sabotage (blow up racer in an anarchy system to fix a race for shady gangsters), and so on.

Add buoy's you buy them as you do with limpets, launch them, they project a holographic circle you need to fly through, when you are done with them you recall them and they return to the ship. If they get hit they explode and you need to buy a new one.

I think the game would massively benefit of a racing mechanic because
a) the fight model is very good, fun, and allows to progress in skill
b) it is a non-combat skill based mechanic <- we need this
c) gives much more depth to the engineering beyond combat

Nice. I like it. We already have this in microscale with data point scanning in surface installations. You only have 1 minute to rush to the next one. And it's open world.

No more than Powerplay really.

- CQC and racing assets already exists
- Nav buoys already exists
- Comm towers and "gate" models already exists

And it would BE in the main game that would be the point. The entire point of the post is to place it IN the same game instead of the current separate CQC menu.

Probably the biggest issue with CQC - that, and you can't use your main ships. the "power ups" should never have been a thing, either.

my viper, eagle, ieagle, courier and body is ready for this!!

I can see the "little league" as well with Adders and Haulers and Sidewinders.

Nope, but CQC itself have been described as a virtual game within the game so the powerups there fits.

A "real" world championship game with CQC would be different.

I'm not really debating whether it fits or not, I'm putting forward my thoughts as to why I think it's not doing so well. Which is a shame, because it really is fun. And now that I am off exploring for the next year, it's the only way I'm likely to get any pew pew...

This is a huge failing IMHO with CQC. All that development time/effort spent on a stand alone game, when it could instead have started injected mechanics into the core game to be leverage elsewhere.

eg: Undertaking a mission to fly a fighter patrol from a capital ship. ie: Utilising CQC fighters for other types of gameplay. FD would clearly need to develop NPC fighter AI that you could fight against, but if we assumed that was done, there could then be a version of CQC in the core game that would then have the means to offer PvE combat too!

Having CQC as a stand alone game, instead of injecting that type of gameplay into the core game, was a big mistake IMHO.

Imagine in the core game being able to undertake a mission/task and immediately holo-me into a fighter, at a location, ready to undertake it... And this could anything from a CQC type PvP fight (as per now), to a CQC type PvE fight, to a fighter patrol/escort type mission of a myriad of types...

Yup, CQC is fun PVP without the drawback of heavy losses of cash but at the end more of a timewaster than the core game.

I would love to have CQC of various kinds in the core game.

Why it wasnt part of the main game completele baffles me aswell.
Now that those assets are in game there is so much oppurtunity for fd to make the concept of cqc a real treat. But as in so many things they fail to understand good gameplay.
Braben enjoys sitting at thargoid sites and watching who shows up. Wich btw is somewhat of a quote.
I sometimes get the idea creative thinking is not one of their strong points.
