How to make the small ships SHINE! Getting CQC and ingame racing championship into the game

Yup, CQC is fun PVP without the drawback of heavy losses of cash but at the end more of a timewaster than the core game.

I would love to have CQC of various kinds in the core game.

Had CQC been put into the core game in some guise, imagine a reskin of it being used in Powerplay, where an outcome is dictated by combat at particular location. The combat is simply some combat scenario of attack/defend an area/station/ship etc etc...

Even if we simply consider standard CQC in the game, missions could pop up offering you a bonus if you complete/win X matches etc... Hell, just run a CQC CG!

So they would have to be in their own league.

Stock / A-Rated / Engineered as different type of races.

You could even have Engineering 1-5 as a qualifier for access.

You'd not want to split up the events too much. I'd suggest non-engineered (stock) and engineered events.

Its quite simple actually.
Slf carryin ships come into a cqc designated area. Launch. Fly into the arena bubble...wich only allows slf.. any other ships simply cant enter or shoot into the bubble.
Have a few matches and leave again.
Doesnt even break immersion. Now thats cool imo.

I'd be happy for CQC and Time Trial races to only be for actual fighters (ie: as per CQC currently and slfs). eg: Not Eagles etc...

However, as regards entering CQC, time trial or fighter based missions, tasks or CGs, I see no reason why not to simply "spawn" there via the holo-me appear in the ship, in the right location, done! Keep it simple/immediate...

eg: See a mission for CQC? Undertake it and immediately holo-me into the CQC gameplay. See a mission for a time trial race? Undertake it and immediately holo-me into the fighter at that location... See a mission to protect a ship with a wing of fighters? Undertake it and immediately holo-me into the fighter at that location... etc...
 
In-game racing would actually be the easiest thing to implement - pick a starting point, pick a destination, set a time limit greater than 0:00 and off you go.

Record the amount of time remaining when the race mission is complete, compare recorded times to determine the winner.

Done.

CQC already is in the game, it's called Open.

Doesn't sound like what I suspect most people mean by racing? eg: Around a course in regular flight? I'd imagine way markers (holographic hoops) you need to fly through, around a course...

You're not wrong there. It's just as impossible to find an interesting match/fight there too!

CQC's gameplay should have been injected into the core the game from the start, to (a) offer easy to access PvE and PvP fighter based gameplay, and (b) to increase the depth, variety and complexity of combat scenarios available (in PP, missions, and CGs)...
 
The small ships already shine.

Bigger is not always better in Elite: Dangerous. Depending on what you like to do small ships could be the perfect ship for you along any of a number of vectors
 
Why of course hell yes.

It's achievable (i.e. categorised enough FD don't have to try any actual dynamic content yet) and yet would be engaging for many people.

Who doesn't want to fly around a racetrack in an iCourier bolting railgun shots at each other?
