How To Make Trading Less Chore-Like?

EDIT: To clarify, I mean how can the developers make trading less chore-like?

Hi!

I want to like trading. Trading is fun, right? But in this game, it's incredibly repetitive. Because "all" you do is take off, hyperjump, supercruise, dock, take off, hyperjump, supercruise, dock and repeat.

Is there anything that can be done to make trading more interesting?

If we were to compare this to other games where you transport goods, such as Euro Truck Simulator, you're driving on tight roads with a cumbersome trailer and other trucking stuff. If we were to compare it to Spintires for example, you're navigating through challenging terrain.

So again, what can be done to make trading more interesting and less of a chore?

Think of it like this.

What could be done to make driving a semi-truck from point A to B more fun and less of a chore?

It is a job, after all... yes? If you're "simulating" life as a space pilot... some things would be a chore... yes?

I get it's a game in the technical sense... but I always understood the idea to be that you're actually a space trucker... and as a space trucker... life can be... well... boring.

That is until some crazy pirate comes along... :)

You should be getting attacked 15 or so times a trip. Lucky to make it alive but players now want to grind in peace and have nothing out of the ordinary effecting there cash per min ratio

Because in that case you've got roads to precisely maneuver with a long cumbersome truck. And in Spintires you're constantly struggling with the terrain. It makes for varied and sometimes quite challenging gameplay, and not "just" mindnumbing.

Well if you want to liven it up a bit you could always trade in Lave or one of many other pirate infested systems, their a fun lot sometimes I give them what they want other times I just try to run like hell.

If you seriously want to make trading more interesting do the Rares trade, typically from Lave cluster to Altair cluster

Both are pirate grounds and Im sure you'll run for your life on many an occasion

Try going hunting for highly demanded goods. There's a lot of places around where I operate that don't bulk produce Liquor, so hunting for those goods can be a trip. Also, try keeping an eye out for black markets, then scooping up goods from USS's. Smuggling is also specifically the 'exciting' version of trading, so if you want to dump your medicine and metals for drugs and guns, it can definitely be more lucrative.

An official radio station we could tune into in-game would help on those long hauls. It could broadcast the latest news and bulletins, interviews, and lots of groovy space tunes.

You need to start doing things that a real space trucker would be doing. Plug your MP3 player into the cockpit dashboard, irresponsibly try to navigate your music menus while piloting. Hit cruise, finally get to open that delicious sandwich packed lunch you made yourself, get interdicted just as your taking the first bite, lurch for the flight-stick accidentally dropping the sandwich in your lap, start cursing as you simultaneously try to manage a space-encounter without getting turkey and mayo all over your cockpit, knocking over your drink as you flail, then before you know it... SPACE TRUCKER SPACE WRECK!

If they had some sort of copilot in the bigger ships that allow you to get up and walk around your ship while the copilot gets you to your destination, that would be awesome. Just that would really liven it up for me, but if little activities like customizing the interior, some kind of captain's computer with stuff to do, or even preforming basic maintenance on the ship were added in. I would never get bored during routine trading runs. That kind of immersion would simply be exhilarating.

Simply put? You don't make the trading itself less chore like. You make the journey in between more engaging. We already have pirates to help with the danger aspect, now how about we get to hire or be given wingman support (hopefully in the upcoming update oh boy!!!) to help you on your way? How about mid way detours? "Oh did we say THAT station well uh, heh yeah something came up and you need to go here instead now." or more comm updates, "THAT CARGO IS MARKED DROP IT IMMEDIATELY THE FEDS ARE ON YOU! WE WILL PAY YOU DOUBLE IF YOU MAKE IT BACK ALIVE!". Any thing random that has a chance to break up the expected routine really would work. Doesn't have to happen all the time, but once in a while to wake you up and stir the pot a little

Trading needs to be harder. It needs to be deeper, with a more complex system of economies, favoring longer routes not just for rares.
Trading in some systems needs to be dangerous.
Trade in illegal goods needs to, at least, pay more than trading in fully legal ones.

I'm telling you that COMM box in that top left corner... a lot of great stuff could be happening in there... not just for player chat

I think a Log of money made would be nice. Maybe a inbuilt streaming radio stations? How about a nodding dog... More distractions while zipping about...
