As far as I know, the UI panel defaults are left shift + a, s and d. If you change bindings, it tells you what function the key was originally bound to. I think you might have missed that.
As I said in my post - rebind the navigation keys in the controls menu to other keys that you don't use.
(I have my panel focus keys bound to the number pad - 0, 1, 2 and 3. The navigation keys are default.)
