How to Navigate to a Settlement on a Planet

Ok, maybe I'm stupid, but I cannot set a navigation point to a settlement.

In the System Map, I have selected the planet. I then look at the planet map, but when I select the settlement I cannot set a route to it. It is selected, but doesn't appear on my HUD when I'm approaching the planet. I can enter its atmosphere and end up flying around, but have no idea where it is...

Please HELP!

Something you can try to do is select the settlement directly from the navigation menu rather than the system map, if that doesn't work (likely because it is listed as unexplored) you can scan the nav beacon in the system to reveal everything.

I'm unable to scan the nav beacon, tried while in supercruise and then dropped out and couldn't do it then either...

you need to target the nav beacon via contacts menu (like scanning a ship), in normal space.

for settlement: drop a pin in system map, plotting a route doesn't work in-system.

or select it in the nav-panel (when it shows up there).

It will show in Navigation Panel but rather look in System Map -> Local Bookmarks and it should be there. It is much easier to use Local Bookmarks because then you see what settlement is on what planet more clearly. But NavPanel should work.

Try relogging.

If nothing that has been mentioned works for you then submit a Bug Ticket to FDev. In the meantime, get a Surface Scanner and see if that helps (Target the planet and not the settlement for full reveal).

You cannot select the "Plot Route" option to anything when in the same system but you should be able to select it as a navigation target in the way you describe, and in the navigation panels.

Another alternative to try is to slow down on the approach (before you drop from SC). If the planet has any bases, they should show up as circles on your HUD (Solid = On this side, Dotted = On the other side). You should be able to select these with your 'Target Ahead' button. Then you should be able to navigate properly.

While we are at it then, If you do own Horizons, are you launching the Horizons version from the main menu (non-horizons is the top option in my list)?

Or have you maybe messed around with your nav settings by mistake so it's only displaying certain things?

if you know the planet it's on then use a surface scanner , it should then show up

Do you see the planetary settlements in navigation tab? Have you any filters in place on navigation tab? Did you launch elite dangerous horizon 64 bit (not sure if this is the name but its something similar) or some other version? (if you launched non horizon version you can't land or see planetary stuff even if you own horizon).

Try log out of the game to desktop and open the launcher again. Then make sure you select the horizon 64 bit version from the list and launch that. Then check the filters that you haven't set filters so it doesn't show planetary bases in nav tab.

Is this your first time playing elite/horizon or trying to land on planets. Have you done landing to settlement before?

You have to scan the planet itself first, by pointing your ship at it, getting close enough in supercruise, and waiting for the scan to finish. If the planet is still showing as "Unexplored" then you will be unable to target the base, even though you are able to select it via the system map - you have to scan and identify that specific planet before base targeting works correctly.

If you're already in the same system as the settlement, you cannot use the "plot route" button in the system map. You have to click the "target" button (to the left of the "plot route" button).

I discovered the problem. Turns out the purchase of horizons didn't complete for some reason. So i'll have to to to purchase again.

Good to hear you fixed the problem. Check your bank account and check if it charged you twice. If so get in touch with support they are usually quite excellent at fixing any problems.
