How to play Elite Dangerous without the Epic Games Launcher?

I dont think there is a product key
For Steam accounts started in 2019 there is none, for sure
So you need the Epic account/client running because that's the authentication for ED
You have a couple of simple options.
Pay for the game via Steam or the Frontier Store.

Don't think much of epic. I'll just buy another copy.

Would easily rather buy another account from Steam or Frontier than install Epic on my system just to play it for free. And ED with Horizons is cheap anyway.
I fail to see the logic of installing Epic if one doesn't trust it to begin with and wants to circumvent it once installed.

Well thats the catch of FREE Epic deals. Epic pays for game companies to get their product, and then gives out stuff free. Now what Epic gets from this. It gets players installing their launcher, and hopefully such players may buy something from Epic.Giving them some chance against Steam. So basically you are going to need that launcher, or you are going to need that forementioned neat Python script.
whats with: install epic - link the epic account to frontier - create there an elite account and then play using the new frontier account on the old frontier launcher - delete epic stuff afterwards.
