How to play Elite on my monitor and not VR ?

I downloaded oculus tray,so I can turn oculus runtime service off,but now steam opens,i used a vr key in the oculus store from frontier and I assumed I was downloading the vr version into oculus, and would have access to both, should I use edprofiler and if so,how do I go about setting that up to differentiate between the 2,thanks in advance

Yes, you should absolutely use edprofiler. You can create and save profiles for both desktop and VR modes, and switch between them with a click of the mouse. How to set them up will be clear once you run the app. There is actually a "No VR" checkbox right there on the interface, but you'll also likely be changing other graphics settings, and probably the HUD colors between the two as well, so saving two different profiles is the way to go.

Good luck!

Oculus tray tool serves another purpose. It is specifically for the operation and configuration of the Oculus, across all VR apps. So, yes, you should keep it running. You can create profiles for individual apps. I find that using OTT to manage supersampling is generally better than using any given game's settings. I keep SS at 1.0 within ED itself, and bump it up with OTT. It's also a great way to kill and restart the Oculus service, among other things.

Edprofiler, on the other hand, is just for settings within ED.

Hope this helps!
