How to post XBox screen shots to the Forums

Hi folks, a totally-not-official how-to of getting your XBox screenies on to your PC and then to this forum (and elsewhere as you please, eg Discord). There may be other ways (I dislike using those blimmin' ad-heavy third-party websites, for instance), but this is what I do.

First, some preparation:
Step 1 - download and install the free XBox Companion app from Microsoft for your PC
Step 2 - fire up the Companion, go to Settings, then Captures, and go through to your PC's own Capture settings to find where your captures are saved, and to change that destination to whatever you want

Now for use!
Step 1 - on XBox, capture a screen shot and upload it to your Activity Feed as you normally would
Step 2 - on the Companion on your PC, click on the Captures icon, which is the picture of a TV with a controller on its bottom right corner
Step 3 - click on the "On XBox Live" tab
Step 4 - scroll through your available pictures, listed down the left side (on my app anyway) to find the one you want, then click on that to show it in the middle of the screen
Step 5 - in the bottom middle of the screen, click on "rename" to change the name of the picture to whatever you deem appropriate - if you don't rename it then later the app will save the file as "Elite Dangerous (number)".
Step 6 - scroll down the middle section of the screen a little (if required), then click on Download
Step 7 - fire up File Explorer (or whatever else for that purpose), navigate the the capture directory as per step 2 in the preparation stage above, and find your picture. It will be a PNG (unless the format the app uses can change? I should get to exploring that issue I guess...)
Step 8 - use whatever means you deem appropriate to make a JPG version of that PNG (other file formats besides JPG may work in these forums, but this is good enough for me)
Step 9 - on these forums, start making a post, click on the Insert Picture icon (landscape with an itty bitty tree and hill in it, tenth from left for me), which brings up an option to pick a file or do drag-and-drop
Step 10 - go to File Explorer, drag the JPG from your captures directory and then drop it into the box from step 9. Alternatively, you can use the file-explorer method that the forum's box lets you initiate. Either works.
Step 11 - finish making your post as you judge fit, and then publish it as you normally do.

It's so much easier to get the URL of your screenshot from gameclips.io (they're automatically available once your Xbox uploads them to Xbox Live) and post the URL in IMG tags:

I know those sites exist, I just find them to be a PITA to use. I have the Companion running anyway for other things besides just screenies, so I use that.

Upload to twitter. right click twitter image on twitter, copy image URL, copy into image box on forum. add to Post...
No conversion required. twitter does PNG - JPG for you...
you can change it back to PNG by replacing the letters jpg to png in the URL..

Gamerdvr.com, you have to sign up for a free account, the owner is a nice person and is actively developing the site. He has an ad-free and "Pro" features on a subscription basis, strangely though he also has a lump sum "lifetime" passes, the "Pro" lifetime is essentially the price of a game, now it's up to you whether or not it's worth it, I did and bought one on the idea that I'd spend that much and more using the pro features I use, but to each his own.

the site does alot of what others have said other sites do, it syncs up with your xbox uploads and shows them on the site pretty much minutes after it hits xbox live. But it's also got pro features too.
