Hallo commanders,
I've been lurking for a long while, haven't posted on a forum in ages. I have found myself lately with a bit of an identity crisis about how I want to play Elite in the future. I've been flying an Anaconda for almost four months now I've been able to fully upgrade it and do a good measure of engineering... However... something hasn't felt right about it all this time.
It was the obvious end goal for me, I like doing a lot of things, exploration especially--enough that the other "big three" ships weren't ever something I felt I wanted. Things come up though, I get nostalgic for a time when I flew ships where the cockpit was in the front and they were smaller and I could land more easily and in a fancier/more enjoyable manner. The Anaconda certainly isn't the prettiest ship in the bubble either, and I've always thought that aesthetically at least--not balance wise--it could use having more of its size proportionally dedicated to weapons (larger/more hardpoints) relative to other multipurpose ships like the Python.
Then, as I approach the point where I've engineered all the important parts of the Anaconda that I wanted to get to, I find myself thinking more and more about my long term angle at roleplay in this game. I know that when I'm done engineering I will probably want to dedicate myself to full-time power play or exploration and or maybe even get involved with a player faction (preferably one that also does heavy RP.) In this respect too, I find issues, I guess I always have. I do not feel that my character, Korinne, would be one to command such a large ship as the Anaconda. (about how many crew would it take to operate such a ship anyway, by the way?) Many of the missions, and indeed bounty hunting in general seem to make more sense when done with a ship that isn't quite so large and so apt for trading say, imperial slaves, instead.
So given all these factors and some I haven't detailed, despite the fact that the Anaconda is better in nearly every way except agility, I find myself wanting to return to the Python and perhaps stay there. I've never been one to collect ships as I see people do here, I traded in every ship I flew until I reached the anaconda. I very much like to fly one ship and stick with it (again because of the roleplay implications.) So to go to the Python probably means selling my Anaconda and at least some of its components lest it bother me that I technically have a huge ship just sitting around somewhere.
I am perhaps a little weary of this because of the practical advantages I'm giving up but I increasingly feel that it is necessary. I guess I'm posting here looking for some encouragement that may help me get over the fence on it. Also, while I know this isn't strictly the forum for it, I'm open to recommendations on player factions/roleplay groups. And while I'm here, has anyone ever given significant thought to what it would take to crew these ships? Specifically the Python or Anaconda? Though I'm interested in general as well.
Hopefully I've been coherent enough in typing all of this, I love this game and this seems like a pretty good community. If you've read this far, I appreciate you.
