Newcomer / Intro How to reach far away systems?

I'm trying to leave federation space and reach empire but am unable to plot a route to far away systems..

I guess i need to do shorter routes but no idea how to choose the correct systems that are between where i am and my destination?

Yeah, the route-planning in the Galaxy Map is limited to a 100ly distance. Beyond that, it's up to you. I think there are some user tools on the web though that can help you though. Try googling for something like Elite Dangerous Route Planning and see what comes up?

There are offline planning systems available. Google is your friend there...

If I want to go somewhere, sol for example, I find sol, note what direction it is in, and then just head in the general direction, a few jumps at a time. Re-orientate myself and repeat. Has worked so far. You do need a ship with at least a 10LY jump distance first tho to avoid the gaps...

The capital of the Empire is Achenar, and I believe it's visible in large letters on the galaxy map.

So basically what you do is you select your current system, turn the galaxy map so that you're looking towards "Achenar", then select a star in that direction. Repeat until you get there.

That's how I got here before the route planner was added :)

I don't much like external tools.

* Go to galaxy map, select destination (either by name through the navigation tab, or visually).
* In navigation tab, select "current location" (the small arrow button).
* Rotate map so the destination marker is "behind" the one for the current system.
* Select a system that's roughly in the desired direction, and within range.
* Perhaps you might want to look for missions, pick cargo, or opt for non-explored systems. Or you just jump for it.
* Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

The only time this made me actually end up in the desired destination was my trip to Sol. All other trips turned out different than intended, but I enjoyed them greatly. ;-)
