How to ready ED for the release?

Hey, pardon my ignorance or lack of understanding.

How do we prepare our ED for the arrival of the CV?

I have only the Elite Dangerous launcher. Will it be patched on the 28th? or do I have to get an oculus key or something?
Quote confused at the whole scenario Launcher? Steam? Oculus Home?

thank you!

I assume there will be a patch to add 1.3 SDK support between now and HMD-arrival-day, and probably also to fix the rendering issue lee_ars saw on Vive. I wonder what else it might fix.

You will be able to run ED with Rift with your existing installation whether from the Frontier launcher or Steam, and there should be a way to get a code from Frontier to activate it on the Oculus Home store by then too, if you want to have all your VR games in one launcher.

so for sure we dont need steam or oculus home?

i prefer ED launcher, standalone. No need to get steam in the mix or oculus home for that matter...

Some speculation of how it will probably go down

1. ED will get its client updated
2. As a registered Oculus user you will be able to download the latest runtime + Oculus Home app
3. When you install the Oculus Home app, you will then proceed to add ED's executable path into Oculus Home and then launch the game from there. This will start ED with the arguments necessary for it to know you're running an HMD

Given that some people will get their Rifts on Monday and given that Friday and Monday are holidays in the UK, FD are cutting it fine with regards to getting a patch out.

Hope i am wrong.. however cant see how Oculus intend to deliver them on Tuesday if we havent heard a peep at this time on a Wednesday.

Hope wrong though. Still darn excited.. my order number has a 30 so i guess i have to wait till end April sometime.

My guess is that oculus will bake and deploy the Elite game within the Home store. Dont think it will be a general patch, but a special build for CV1 owners to make the Oculus Home version just work.
I also get the feeling that Oculus have their paws all over this version, and have put lots of effort and devtime in it. Doubt this version will run outside of Home. Just my guess.

I wouldn't be so sure, sounds like a regular patch update to me:

Before the Oculus launch we will be releasing an updated Elite Dangerous build which will contains support for the latest Oculus SDK...

This is incorrect. Elite will get a patch for steam and standalone along with a release on oculus home.

fingers crossed big oculus update coming soon.... kickstarters already getting order processing emails and the forum just gone offline pending a "new experience"

Braben mentioned the launchers may differ, but in the game, you'll be able to use either Oculus or Vive or neither. He did mention launching from Steam using Oculus might be a bit off, I'm guessing that would use SteamVR for some reason.
