How to reply to direct messages

Hi

Tosay I received a text chat message in-game from another (real life) player. I didn't get any notification alert to its arrival. I only notice it when I got an email from the player asking if I had received it.

I can can see the message in my overhead comms box. But how do I reply to a direct message? My message just seems to want to go out local?

Press Return to get into the chat window and then precede your message with /r (which means reply to last message). You can also use /w for wing and I'm fairly sure there's another one too. Oh, and you can press Tab to cycle through the different message targets available to you.

Might​ be a wee bit tricky if all you have is the PS4 controller :)

OK, maybe not press Return but there must be an equivalent?

Yes, /r and then a space before your actual message should send it to the last commander who messaged you. If memory serves, once you enter the space after the /r you should see the message target change in the comms window.

Ah, of course. I should have remembered that from the PC version.

Just tried it but it says "Transmission not sent, no one to reply to". Could be that the player has gone off line. Or I got a message from Frontier to say the server is coming down in an hour since he had sent the DM. So perhaps that last message interfered with replying to the DM.

If I remember rightly from the Xbox version you could Cycle through available commanders in the comms screen using the RT & LT - I suspect that as the xbox & Ps4 controllers pretty much match in terms of buttons the control scheme will be more or less the same.

ehi Commander, so you mean that shortcuts work on the keyboard? Can I have shortcuts also for subsystems? Like to turn on or off FA???

Apologies for any confusion (I'm a PC player who didn't spot this was a PS4 query). So no, the "/r" and "/w" message prefixes (which may still work on PS4) aren't really shortcuts, they're special prefixes for the chat message. That said, functions like turning Flight Assist on and off should be re-bindable to any other inputs you have available.

I should stop talking now - I'm probably making things worse. :p

Generally player ignore playing in OPEN when they do not want to interact with other players. Or they are so dumb that didn't understand that this game rely on player interactions. Anyway this is totally O.T. so shut up althogheter.

A commander of equally dubious morality and sobriety, a master of self-promotion and self-interest, Antodena fought a constant and losing battle with his own best tendencies. Now (PS4) he fly the S/S SCULTURA (A HIGLY MODIFIED DIAMONDBACK EXPLORER) and due to forementioned problem in trading he repurposed the CARGO only for MISSIONS and CONVEYOR simple works. That's why.
