CQC How to revitalize CQC

Hi all (I'm new in the forum and I cant edit so any error will stay there for the moment).

I like CQC, and even if I think it needs a few improvements the main question is that not enough people plays it. Mach making take too much and I haven’t even been able to test capture the flag maps.

I suppose that Elite dangerous community is not big enough to keep this arena mode alive.
Or maybe is big enough but 70% of the community don’t have any interest in this part of the game.

Probably the game should include options like; buy CQC tickets with your credits, and get rewards depending of your performance at the end of the month: reputation, influence, power-play merit, CQC skins...
You will get more risk but also more reward in the CQC and players will be more attracted to play.

The second option is, ¿should be CQC open to F2P players?
As this part of the game is quite modular maybe people could have access in F2P mode a few matches per day, and if they want more they have to pay. Mean wile we have people to play with.

Seriously I would like to see this part of the game developing and reaching competitive levels.
A CQC world championship with pro players have to be amazing, and can bring much more people to the game.

I have tested other space simulators and this is the only one were you feel a realistic mas and inertia, the others are just like space card-box ships. Wiil be sad to leave the project abandoned cause of a lack of players.

Cheers.

Yes!

I prefer CQC to open but it's honestly starting to get boring too because of the super long wait times and low population. I like your ideas, but I think most importantly FDev can fix this if they simply gives us the ability to create lobbies and browse available lobbies, instead of using this failed match making system. That way we can see which games are going on and can join whichever one we want. No one likes waiting around for 5-10-30 or even 60 minutes to get into a game.

Their matchmaking system makes it appear like a wasteland because no one gets paired with one another unless they have a similar skill rating, and barely anyone does because there is a low population and the skill gaps are wide.

Anyway, I hope they put more love into CQC because the gameplay feels so good.

I have to say that I like PVP but in around 8 month played I haven’t entered the open moped jut because I know some people feels that PVP is just gank and camp people in 3vs1.

I would like to enter to make some coop missions, wings and al this stuff but II usually have only 1 hour to trade or to enter a conflict zone after diner.

Its just just the good thing about CQC, if you have no time this day you can enter release some adrenaline take a sower and go sleep.

Now the main question is get more players populating CQC, I know there are other problems like don’t have a lobby timer or anything to know what’s the queue status, but I have seen a lot of treads with this questions and I wanted to focus in the main problem. Keep the people motivated to play.

Something needs to happen. I've tried CQC 5 times since launch.

1. Me and about 5 others ranked 1 to 5. Had a blast, great fun.
2. Me and 2 others ranked much higher than me. Not so much fun.
3. Waited 15 minutes and no other players arrived. Gave up.
4. Went into an empty arena.
5. Went into an empty arena.

Don't see much point trying any more, and I wonder just how many other people are thinking the same, exacerbating the problem.

...afraid to say I played alot when it was released, but I soon found myself working out tactics but then just got bored applying them to game after game after game. Got to a kill ratio of about 10, and suddendly thought, meyyeeeh and that was that. Not played for a month or more now...

My hope is with fighters coming the core game, they move some of the CQC ethos into the core game. ie: Offer missions to protect a platform or capital ship for an hour in a fighter. Even better if you can do it in a wing etc!

I'd play CQC if only it was something that contributes to all the other things I'm doing in the universe. If the grind in the main game wasn't so hard (grinding rank, decaying rep, money, merits, etc...) I probably would think about playing it. I've currently 0 minutes into CQC, apart the 30-45 minutes I spent in beta...

And I thought my KDR of just over 2 was decent! Lol.
It probably won't change now though as the servers always seem to be empty!

In some of the levels I'd typically not even die. Just repeating the same tactics over and over... So it got dull (as I said)...

ps: I typically played Team Deathmatch which probably helped!

I'd rather they save their focus on the real game -.-
This ocean needs to stop getting wider, and start getting deeper.

I agree with some of the points made here. I haven't played CQC so much, too busy in the main game, but its nice for the option to jump into CQC when i want, especially if i have limited time and otherwise out exploring in the main game.

My experience with getting a match are not quite so bad. It often stuck on first attempt, but quitting to menu and trying again would get me into a deathmatch. But there again, i've not tried in the last few weeks to play, so no idea about the current state.

1) Free to play (with hats for sale! Err... ok, CQC paintjobs/decals) could be a good move. A minor concern it might attract the wrong type of player (as in not really suited for the slower pace of the main game) to buy the full game. They might then be dissapointed with their purchase. Of course, if they do like it, they are going to jump into open, which should please the PvP crowd no end with more people to fight against.

2) Lobby/chatroom, i don't see any issues with. At least then if there is nobody around who wants a game, you can see at a glance instead of waiting in vain hope of getting a game. The ability to create your own games with the people you want, to lock games, etc, i think would be an excellent move, and its been a staple of online area style games for decades. I can see reasons why FD went for the method they did, but without it being vastly more popular than it appears, its probably time to rethink this aspect of matchmaking.

There have been several suggestions (make it f2p, put it on steam, make it accessible from main game, etc.) and i agree, something needs to be done to draw more players in.
With their hands full with 1.5 and a Horizons pre christmas deadline to meet, i wouldn't expect anything major until well into the new year though.
CQC fans can only hope that it hasn't flat-lined by then.

Having CQC as F2P is an interesting concept.

I think having more weapons would help. Having more unlocks achievable at earlier levels, and increasing the credits earned. Like 1000 credits per kill, really?

I like CQC, I don't have teh patience to wait for a match for ages, especially when i have no indication of the length of the remaining wait.

Just let us queue from in game and remain in game to continue to play while we wait. Then when the queue is finished let us port to the game (logging out our main ship) unless we are in combat when the queue pops.

This way i would queue and continue to explore/trade/mine/whatever as would many others i guess. As matters stand I (and again i believe many others) am not willing to pay the opportunity cost of using up my game time sitting in a queue with nothing to do, which is a vicious circle causing the queue times to be longer than they need to be.

There really should be a Damocles-esque scenario added to CQC.

In the released version, I have generally found it pretty quick to get in to a game (though I have not progressed beyond helpless yet and only have a few rounds to my name). On the few occasions I have played the current Beta, I have sat waiting for a room for a couple of minutes without seeing any hint of other players. Hopefully once 1.5 goes for release I will get a chance to see the Imperial fighter in action.

On this theme, I'd rather see mission/tasks in the core game to go to a platform/location and fly a fighter for 20-30mins offering fighter cover for the platform/capital ship. Or to attack a platform/capital ship. Allow wings etc.

ie: Bring variety to the core game.

Well, CQC was probably aimed mainly at the X-Box folks, who are looking for quick arcade-style action. Since the XBox is basically a PC, my guess is they made it available to everyone, because it could be ported without too much work.

Players who bought ED originally, wanted to play a simulation catching the spirit of the original Elite, which ED is doing pretty well. I'm not surprised, they are not playing CQC more than casually but prefer working on their progress in the main game instead. I almost never see one of my friends in CQC in the contact list. Personally I have not even tried CQC yet and think the development time would have been better spent for the core game, than making a completely seperate game, but if it helps FD generating revenue from the X-Box owners, I'm fine with it.

Said this many times, tweeted David, and posted numerous times:

Beyond the initial novelty and a quick pew pew it doesn't have much longevity. Other than just for fun, there is no reason to play; it needs 1v1, 2v2, TDM ELO ranks, seasons, leagues, leaderboards (bragging rights) - and rewards (i.e. special paint jobs, etc.. that carry over into the main game) for it to be a worth while to invest ones time in.
If they don't sort something like that its going to die - and as we're seeing now queue times take forever, so peeps lose interest
.

CQC can be amazing fun and it just needs that little bit extra commitment from FD. It would be a shame to see it not reach its great potential. I keep trying for games but I can't get one :(

I've said my piece about CQC and it's problems, but i want to respond to one point that keeps being made, in this thread and others.
The notion that CQC is a console thing, or specifically aimed at or developed for console players.
What makes you guys think that ?
A bunch of random guys meets an opposing bunch of random guys in a PvP battle in a restricted space, using various different game modes.
There's a genre term for that, it's the classic definition of an Arena Shooter.
Now, i've played thousands of matches in both World of Tanks and Warthunder (and i'm pretty certain, so have many of you), and i all played them on PC.
As it is, those games are originally developed for PC, even though WoT has made it to consoles too now.
This is not a rant, i just think you guys got it wrong. ;)
