How to scan data point?

I have a civil war mission where I am to scan a data point. So I have my SRV in front of the "Data Point (Active)" the data point is targeted, I have my Data Link Scanner assigned to secondary fire in firegroup 1, I have firegroup 1 active. Secondary fire for SRV is assigned to G in controls. However when I press any of the mouse buttons or G nothing happens (other than primary fire fires the weapons, but of course that doesnt help either). How do I scan this Data Point? [blah]

very weird. Drove around the building there a few times, and suddenly I noticed the top of the data point moved and extended further up, so at least something happened (though I don't know why?) but I could still not just use the data link scanner. So I tried going into the turret and now there was this big red Data Point square to the left (that wasnt there before top of the data point haed moved), and now I could fire the data link scanner and complete the objective.

Yeah, it's not easy to get the thing targeted without going into turret mode.
These are quite good fun, and you can stack them to the max and complete them all in one run. Get 'em while they're hot...

Switch to Turret mode and target with data scanner. Yes, the top moves and will often move out of range. Turret mode allows you to track the top of the data point and complete the scan.
