how to scan neutron stars/black holes?

Im closing to galaxy area with a lot of neutron stars and i dont know hot to scan them without being harmed.

my only experience was when i have tried to scan neutron star, but i have been dropped out from SC before DSS started his work. i have lost half of my hull to heat damage trying to enter SC again, and my only choice was to jump to one of systems in neighborhood.

is it even possible to scan them? and if so, how to do it?

Scan like any star. In earlier versions this didn't work and you had to get inside the "fsd limit" like you experienced, but this must've been fixed in some patch because now it works from SC on both.

If the main star of the system you are entering (first on info list) is a Neutron Star apply the brakes (hold throttle back button) while hyper jumping to that system. If successful you will stop on entry and be able to scan the NS safely. Afterwards do a 180 flip and cruise away to a safe distance.

If it's a NS somewhere else in a system approach cautiously to a distance of about 5 light seconds and stop when scanning starts. Move away by 180 flip. Hope that helps.

You can scan some from a safe distance. It depends on their size/mass. Others, there's nothing you can do really. The scan range is just too far into the heat envelope, even with heat sinks.

Upgrade your scanner (the bog-standard one).
I'm pretty sure it also extends the range of your discovery/detailed surface scanners, as well as speeding up the process.

err there are more versions of DSS?

Besides the Basic Discover scanner, there's also an Intermediate and an Advanced version (You only need one), as well as the add-on Detailed Surface Scanner but they work in conjunction with your normal scanner. Buy the best you can afford of all 3
