How to scoop cargo in the python?

I have spent quite some time mining in other ships and can scoop pretty well.
But whatever I try in the Python, I mostly end up destroying the cargo. It almost feels as if there is something right in front of the cargo scoop.
Is this working as designed or is the Python bugged in that regard?

It's a bug that apparently haven't been fixed. It takes quite a while to get used to how the Python's cargo scoop is situated. I'd ticket it if I were you.

I reset after gamma, so I'm not in a Python yet, but in gamma I was left with the feeling that the cargo scoop was sort of placed like this:
