How to scoop lots of cargo efficiently?

Kind of a by product of another thread I posted re: my first big NPC ship kill, a wanted bandit dropped a lot of cargo as I shot him up.

Like a dozen or more cargo canisters. I've done barely a few cargo retrieval missions after learning the drop X off at Y was lot faster faction mission grinding. But I have done picking up cargo, like mission that says retrieve this black box, bring it back.

But for mission it was easy - just 1 single item, I could take my time, go real slow with scoop out, and drift bit above and over the target so scoop would get it and not ram with my ship.

But with 12+ canisters floating all over, and wanting to get on my way, I tried to be bit faster and all I did was ram them all and destroy them lol.

So question - for honorable player pirates that demand say 30-40 cargo, and you get them dumped - how the heck are you picking all those up? I can only imagine how long it takes to pick up 40 canisters? Is there some quicker way?

And pirate or not - if I'm killing another bandit like this that drops some free loot, same question - are people just ignoring the loot or literally spending more time than it is worth to scoop it all up 1 by 1?

Could give collector limpets a go, all you have to do is purchase a Collector Limpet controller which takes a Internal compartment and then purchase limpets(Which count as cargo, but their cheap enough where jettisoning them isn't a big deal) at 100 a pop great for miners and pirates.

It's either practice or collector limpets. I've practiced a lot, so scooping in my Cobra is easy-peasy for me. Just takes experience, and make sure to use FAoff to accelerate/decelerate quickly.

If you get a better/bigger collector controller, you can fire off more at a time.
They also stack up. I can have 4 limpets zooming around at the same from 2 small controllers.

It certainly speeds up mining. Instead of spending 4 hours in a belt, you can be done in around 2 hours because you're not wasting time scooping up the chunks.

I was told/learnt that it is better to use a lot of forward and backward motion to scoop efficiently, than fly round looping. Or stay still and the new collector drones will help.

Collector limpets dont work on cargo verry well.

You have to be sat still or the cannister blows up and you get nothing.

Cannosters spill out over a large aria so it takes almoste as long to w8 for the limpet to fly over to the cargo and come back 1k in diferent directions walst you sit still as if you just flew over and scooped manualy. In my asp I can beat the limpet and scoop before the limpet can grab it, I can also do this at 39mps instead of 0.

When minimg I can be on the move and have no problems with limpets scooping as I go, even walst in combat with pesky pirates

Collector limpets work really well when a player drops the cargo willingly. 2-3 drones can make short work of a 30 ton cargo clump. Face your cargo hatch towards the cargo, get as close as possible and they'll be done in a minute or two. For manual scooping of large clumps my record was only ~30 tons, some claim theirs is as high as 50. So I'm pretty glad for cllollector drones, it's more profit for me.

12 tons spread over a huge distance is harder, that is when you should just manually scoop and not bother with the drones. As said a lighter faster ship is better for that kind of scooping. if you do have a bigger ship you want to line up further away so you don't have to make any adjustments. Trying to turn your giant boat while flying at the cargo is a good way to lose some canisters.

I totally suck at scooping, damn it lol. Hadn't equipped collector limpets yet and came across another bandit that spewed like 12+ cargo all over.

Was in my asp and just went real slow - or thought I was slow - on my thrust meter I was 10-12% throttle, barely 50 on the scale and even though cargo box is blue, not red, and lined up right on the crosshair, I just kept running over the damn things and popping them like balloons.

at least i'm getting plenty of practice opportunities.

Instead of using throttle, bind your forward/backwards thrusters to keys and use those to scoop. This is the only way to scoop efficiently enough to obtain figures up to 50 tons. Cargo can be picked up at speeds 40m/s or lower and you should aim the cargo slightly under your crosshair so that you don't crash into it with the front of your ship.

Most of my scooping practice came from pre-1.3 mining (python, asp).

That was fixed, I was flying at 62 M/s today and the collectors did not fail!
