how to secure hotas to desk without damaging the wood

I'd suggest Command Strips. They are two strips of velcro with a gel type glue on the back which can be removed quite easily without leaving a mark on the surface they are attached to.

I use the bigger ones for hanging pictures/paintings in the house* as well as large framed photographs for exhibition. Works a treat.

Here is a link to them on the 3M website:

I would recommend these too. I use all over the house for stuff from pictures to clocks to security cams. I've never used them on a horizontal plane though with something I am actively moving. There may be a slight bit of play?

Digging up an old thread here... my desk is a built in corner desk with a 45 degree corner are for kb, monitors etc. It's fine for normal use but really wasn't designed for throttle, keyboard, joystick, and mouse... plus I wanted to fix the stick & throttle down without.screwing them to the desk.

I did it by cutting a pine "overlay" to create a larger, purpose designed desktop that I wouldn't mind screwing things onto. I originally intended to just.clamp it onto my desk but I liked it so much I ended up screwing it down permanantly. :)

Never game on desk you're not prepared to get scratched, coffee stained, drill holes in etc

Not helpful? OK, try these ...
1. Don't use your desk at all. Mount the joystick to the arms of your chair instead. Much more comfortable. Your back will thank you later.
2. Clear your desk and place a large flat piece of glass cut to the surface dimensions of your desk. Mount some suckers to the base of your joystick and stick them on the glass surface. This has the added benefit of protecting the whole surface of that lovely pine desk.

Yeah... I didn't have enough space under the desk to mount the hotas on the arms without wiping them out on the desk... and glass is a bunch more expensive than the chunk 'o' pine I already had under the house. :)
