How to see or even select a far away star?

So i fancy a bit of exploration, but when i move the system map to somewhere far away to plot a route, you cant see any stars shown? how do you see, let alone select a far off star??

Thanks

Sounds like you have filters selected in the galaxy map. Either switch to Realistic mode (no filters), or switch to something like "star class" (a popular travelling filter for explorers, as you can set the filter to avoid the non-scoopable stars) and make sure the star types you want to find are selected.

The number of stars displayed is severely limited for (i guess) performance reasons. You can increase the number displayed but it will also effect the number displayed in your skybox (i think). Somebody on here can explain it better than me.

Alternatively, you can only see the stars within a certain distance of your cursor, if you are zoomed out very far then you won't see any stars, zoom in a bit.

Of course if you know the name of the star you can enter that into the search box on the galaxy map, type in Beagle Point and press the arrow and watch what happens.

No, the sky box is a 2d image wrapped around your current location and generated from the information available from your exit to the current system, it is generated according to the stars that would be visible to the naked eye from that point, so it is limited naturally to around 5,000 stars.

Right but if you are somebody that wants to see more on the galaxy map or even somebody that just wants to turn the gfx up you can fiddle with the .ini files. If you look at the gal map its like looking down an empty bog roll. You can only see a circle, or more accurately a sphere of stars.

Unless you change the settings in the gal map from map to realistic of course.
