Newcomer / Intro How to see what mission is in what system?

I'm having an issue with the Galaxy Map, first is that i guess i barely understand how it works. I see the mission markers on each system but i can't seem to find where to see what specific mission belongs to that system, i always find myself going back to the cockpit view and checking every mission individually in the transactions tab until i find the right one.

Am i doing this wrong?

You are not doing it wrong. On the galaxy map you can't see which mission belongs to which marker. It is easiest to work via the transaction tab. After selecting the mission use the button marked "galaxy map" (or similar) on the bottom of the mission window, it will open the galaxy map focused on the system where the mission is. You can then easily set a route to that system (second button from left on system label).

Well then, i guess i'll be planning my routes manually while cycling through the 20 missions. I feel it's kind of an obvious thing that should be in the game to be honest, being able to see what mission is in that system from the map.

Among the irritations of the map is the inability to set waypoints to let us plot a multi destination course, so you would end up plotting routes for each mission separately any way.

Selecting missions to the same or adjacent destinations will of course reduce the plotting required.

That's how i've been handling myself, issue is i see some marker still appearing even if the mission is to deliver something elsewhere so that creates some confusion, that and that you can't really see which system is closer to you properly.

Well if you get a delivery mission you will get two markers one on the destination and one in the system you take the mission because you can deliver the cargo in batches so need to be able to find both systems, for other mission types you have to return to collect your reward.

The hang of the mission system can seem quite complex at first. Most people do similar missions in batches so you know what the mission targets are telling you - it's pretty self-explanatory (some missions so need more review of the mission details than others).

This is just one facet of mission stacking that is annoying. What will cause even more grief if you have multiple system destinations stacked is the number of mission-specific NPCs coming after you (Incoming Enemy people). This is why I only ever accept multiple missions to the one station - occasionally to two stations if they are in the same system. The idea of being harassed in every leg of many mission-systems is not something I would enjoy again. (I did do it years ago with stacked courier and "poo" missions {way before engineering} at the then expanding frontier of Sothis etc.. LOL )

EDDiscovery has a "popup" window which shows all the current mission details. I never leave home without it.
That sounds interesting. I'll take a look at that.

Another tool that you may find useful for stacking missions is D2EA's route-optimizer, found on his CMDR's Toolbox website. You can simply input all of your destination systems and it will tell you the most efficient route to visit them. It has the capability to plot a route having one system as both origin and final destination.

This tool is great for delivery missions where you can carry cargo for multiple stops, for salvage/black box missions, and for courier missions.

Cheers...

Repeating what Factabulous said, the trick is to organise missions into groups. Eventually, you'll probably have purpose-built ships for every mission type, so would probably run one group of mission while waiting for one or more of your other ships to transfer. I tend to only stack data courier missions, using the galaxy map only as a guide to planning a 'round' trip. As Para says, stacking missions also potentially stacks enemy chasers. It's not hard to escape interdictions, but it's a pain if you've got very short time bonuses to grab.
