Welcome back Cmdr!
I also am getting to grips with the Engineers and other update contents, though I witnessed a good portion of the changes way out of the bubble- the majority was a back-to-bubble Job really (after horizons I hurriedly outfitted with SRV and (a little too hastily) darted back out again but now I've been winging up and bounty hunting etc so getting fully up to speed with latest while back in the bubble before I'm back out again.
Some great advice here, thank you all
. I'd also say that with only a couple of good prospecting (SRV) sessions, I'd already stocked up with almost all the MATS that are needed, very rares included but yeah unfortunately this alone is not enough (so I'm saving most of my remaining materials for Synthesis (which is a lot more "Ronseal"!), straight up what you see is what you get. The better mods need a commodity grind somewhat
My impression of the Engineers so far is promising but I've had to dash my expectations a fair bit (granted I was childishly expecting 'Miracle Modules'!) but it's all a trade off ultimately, and as I scrutinise my outfits anyway before they're even installed, weighing carefully output/usage with what I need out there- most of the higher grade mods would just have more chance botching my already finely tuned outfit systems on already A1 ships in standard module terms.
Ultimately I've come to see the engineers as an optional outfit 'tweaker' rather than the compulsory investment mentality that seems to prevail -a tool that is handy as hell don't get me wrong but is just that- on a NEED-to-use basis. Plus It's only REALLY viable for the mid/ upper tier ships also and of course Yeah if you want the biggest, baddest, meanest insane Godlike weaponry, armour, shields etc then you'll HAVE to invest purdy mych but apart from pushing FSD range a little with Felicity personally can't be wasting that much game time (limited as is!) on mods I don't really need right now, maybe if ever.
Anyhow, welcome back and HAVE FUN (if your not, the point is lost) and as much patience as ye can possibly muster- and some more to be sure! Good Luck &
Godspeed Cmdrs 7o
