How to start, need CR

Hi everone,

i am new to ED and i tried to get some CR with trading, but without success...:)

Can anybody help me and give me a newbie-info how to make some money with trading at the beginning please?

What i have tried:
Docking at the first station and buy minale oil (73 CR - galaxy average 116 CR).
Then i travel around, but i cant find a station where to sell it for more then 73 CR...

Can anybody help me with the start a bit?

Thanks!
Maxi

1st up. Unless you plan on a career as a fighter flog off those two free guns you start with. You won't get any money but it's 8 tons of excess weight you don't need.

At the very beginning I run from Eranin fruit and veg to Dahan and then run titanium from Dahan to I -booties and fish back to Dahan. Not very profitable but it gets you off the ground.

After that the galaxy map is your friend. Third tab. It shows trade routes by category, but if you click the white arrow to the left of a category you can narrow it down to individual cargo types.

One thing to watch out for though is that the sidey has very limited range so the really good trades won't be possible until you get a longer range ship.

I'm thinking that experienced guys should maybe offer to buddy up with new guys to show them the ropes. 20 mins ingame is the same as about 20 posts! We do this in the flight sim world all the time.

Beta isn't clear on a lot of things. I did a group play with a friend last night to show him the ropes and brought him up to speed pretty quickly and it was a buzz to fly together in formation.

We just used Skype. Nothing fancy. For 2+ TeamSpeak would be used I guess as I don't think free Skype does "conference" calls.

<maxi> where are you based? UK?

+1 rep for you, love the buddy system idea - like an ED mentoring program for new pilots :D

heck that could fill a forum on its own when the game goes gamma, you post your start location and we meet you in the station to show you the ropes.

As well as the trading advice posted above, keep an eye on the bulletin boards. There is often good money to be made buy running 'light cargo' missions to relatively nearby systems, also gives you the chance to check out the commodities markets when you get there to spot any possible trade routes and you get a bit of exploring in too.

If you fancy a bit of fighting there are also missions in Eranin/Dahan to kill X number of enemy ships in the combat zones, you get the bounties and a lump sum for completing the objective. Not as lucrative as trading, also means you're running the risk of losing money for repairs (if you're not a good pilot ;) ) or getting mashed by a player commander (if you're unlucky).

Fly to LP - whatever it is, and go to the unidentified signals, it's often spilled cargo, sometimes a bunch of gold canisters at 4500 credits a pop.

Be ready to run away if it's not cargo, or if you see ships, it's a trap.

Sell them in the black market at freeport, don't try to take them to a station in a more organized system with police.

Fish and Fruit/Vegetables are good starting commodities.

You could make use of my Spreadsheet if you have Excel.

I make no promises. The spreadsheet does not do everything for you. You need to maintain and update it yourself. But keeping track with something like this makes it easier to spot good trade runs.

If you don't want to, or can't use a spreadsheet, then pay attention to the information on the in game trade screen (Galactic average price), and the descriptions of systems on the galaxy map.

The Galactic Average Price will help you decide wether a commodity is a good buy or sell.

The galactic map will give you an idea of what sort of goods to take where. For instance, Agricultural worlds generally have cheap Foodstuffs that can be sold for decent profit at Industrial worlds who don't so much produce their own food.

It's slow going at first, with only 4 tonnes of cargo space, but you can suplement your trade earnings by taking on missions of the delivery type. Once you get the hauler, things get better and you should be able to get into most ships within a week. (The Annaconda and Type 9 might take a few weeks, dependent on your play time)

OP.... If you bought Mineral oil as your first trade then you need to go to the Dahan system and trade there for a profit... Then buy Explosives and go to Assellus Primus and trade that... Back to Erannin again for mineral oil should you wish... do that route a few times and then you can start getting into trading Cobalt/Tanatalum from Dahan to Assellus and then Advanced (can't remember what they are) but you'll soon end up with a Hauler and making 10K to 15K per round trip...

Check out this thread, http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=30341 download the app... run it before starting ED and then you'll get an idea of best prices and most profitable cargo runs...
