How to start the game?

Hi,

ich purchased the game some time ago. Now i have a decent GPU and a VR Headset. But i cannot start. It says my frontier account does not have Elite Dangerous an i shall enter some 25 digit code. What code do they mean????

I purchased over steam. I start via steam an select launch via steam VR. then the error occurs. What am I supposed to do??????

Thanks a lot!

Hiya Mescherk, I would double check that you are launching from steam as the launcher requires that rather than you running it directly. I would try to run without using steams Big Picture mode initially. If you're still unable to get it to work, perhaps look at min-ed-launcher, a fan made app (author rfvgyhn) that can be used to bypass the launcher. Its made by one of the members here and is well used to avoid launcher troubles - a quick search of the forum will show its been discussed and updated recently

It seems it wont accept any of the codes i can provide. Translated it means the my frontier account does not contain Elite Dangerous. I clicked on Partner keys in the frontier shop, logged in with steam and redeemed a key for Elite Dangerous (Steam) and it has 25 digits, but the launcher just wont accept it...

Hey that's unlucky, sorry to hear that about your first day with Elite. You shouldn't have to enter any codes by the way.

If you bought the game on Steam, make sure you're launching the game through Steam. I would launch the game without VR first to make sure that's not interfering in any way (especially if it's not a SteamVR headset).

When the launcher is working properly for steam, you wont be asked for a code, instead it will show a button saying login with steam - steam passes account details to the launcher when it runs it, thats why it has to be run from steam rather than by clicking it directly (your shortcut should be to something like "steam://rungameid/585431"). The launcher is pretty confusing and prone to issues but i would persevere as it will be worth it in the end - its a great game

Thats not how it works for me. I bought on steam:

I click on that entry and click play:

then Im asked if i want to launch or launch through steam VR:

That makes no difference by the way. In either case Im promted to enter some product key:

Trasnlated: This Frontier Account dows not contain Elite Dangerous and is not connected with third party accounts. If you have a 25 digit code you can enter it here.

Ah yea, it should've linked automatically. You should probably get in touch with support over this.

In the meantime, you could try some of the solutions on this Customer Support page to try to link your accounts manually.

Thanks for the translations. I'm not sure what to suggest unfortunately as i dont have it on steam to be able to test. Did you create a frontier account when you first ran the launcher and tell it to rememeber you? If so would click the log out in the launcher, then rerun it from steam to see if it detects the account properly. I think you should be promped to create a frontier account after 'login with steam' button so it shouldnt have any account details before to be saying there isnt a licence. Hopefully one of the other members here who has it on steam can confirm the order it happens for you guys but thats how it was on epic

As mentioned I bought the game a few years ago and I was actually able to start it (back then). So I guess it remembers me, but its kind of broken. And there is no logout option in the launcher. I snipped the complete launcher. The "If you don't have a code, log out" link does not do anything. In the corner i can minimize and close, nothing else.

I even managed to link to my steam account. But that was not the case in the begining. I did that by trying to fix the issue:

Contact Frontier support, they're sterling and will certainly help you out in no time.

O7,
🙃

What do you see at

And are you sure that you have only one Steam account and one Frontier account.

If you only just linked the frontier account to your steam account, give it a few hours and try again. It is not an instant process and takes a while to be recognized.
