How to stop the cheats?

How to stop the cheats from..... well cheating! (Logging)

So let me attempt to paint a picture here, from personal experience.

There I was sitting in my bi Weave clipper, just outside the bubble, looking for anyone that had the misfortune to cross my path. When all of a sudden a python pops up on my radar. So I turn to face my next potential victim and have a scan through the loadout of the ship. Hmm 3 multi’s and 2 pa’s. Wouldn’t have been my choice for a python but who am I to say what a Cmdr can have on a ship.
I round on him and fire off the interdictor, he submits. Weapons come out from both sides and a little dog fight and some pews were had.
It didn’t go as well as I had hoped, as both our shields dropped and the hulls were tumbling, the pythons more so than mine.
Then it happened! The python at 15% hull stops taking damage and flys in a straight line....... then after about a minute, disappears. The swine!!
I send a message asking if he had a dc, only to be called names that would make a sailor blush and stating that he intentionally logged.
Ok so now I’m sat there with my ship in literal pieces and he logs back in with a full health ship. (Is that fair or right? Nope!) he then proceeds to try a finish me off, so I do the only thing I can do and get the hell out of there, to land at a station and repair.

Ok, so it’s clear that he cheated to avoid death and then tried to ‘get revenge’.

What I propose is that when a dc happens the ship stays in the instance still able to take damage. This would eradicate logging overnight as all they would log back in to would be a rebuy screen.
Now if a genuine dc happens then a video is taken and sent in on a ticket. Hey presto! Money back. No video? Then you more than likely cheated and deserve the rebuy.
A system like this wouldn’t affect anyone but loggers and to be honest it’s rife in the community and needs to be stamped out.

As for the ‘safe log’, well it’s still logging out to avoid the death, only to log back in, so therefore it’s still cheating. I know that people say that it’s there for emergencies but if a genuine emergency crops up, I wouldn’t give a crap about the game I was playing. That controller would be dropped!

Im not into pvp enough to let it bother me that much but I can definitely see how its a problem. It baffles me how they put this game together and didn't think about some of the ways players would exploit mechanics. Discouraging logging is like multiplayer dev 101, but then thats the pattern with FD. They create something awesome and theres little to no follow through so it ends up being a system of swiss cheese.

This has been extensively discussed in approximately two million, three hundred and fifty-eight thousand and two hundred and five threads.
FDev have said a lot about it too, in threads and in videos.
The solutions are not as simplistic as you seem to think.

Had the same experience.

A cmdr giving it the big balls over comms.
Turns up in hes mates cutter as a crew member, giving it large over comms bad language ect ect.
Well the cutter did not have a interdicter so i dropped at the station,he opened fire i opened fire, a stray shoot from him hit the station and well he logged at 34%.
He was elite combat ranked and a pure pvp cutter... i was in a clipper btw.

Video is on my feed..

Amazing video.

But thats not the point, people think its low ranked traders/explores just combat log,no its the big guns thats the problem no one cares about traders/explorer's doing it.

When a trader logs on me when pirating i just send them a message (only wanted 10 tut tut).

T's and C's state that it is up to FD to decide wether or not anyone has logged.
It is not a player call.
If you think a CMDR has logged you should file a ticket and let them deal with it and move on.
Stoping logging is best done by following the procedures FD have put in place,as it is the only way they can deal with the matter.

You arn't wrong so to say, but call me crazy if I think someone logged when we are both duking it out and they just so happen to disconnect and have an internet issue right before I would kill them or turn it around and they cannot get away, I must be crazy, no way that would be a combat log...

Also OP is you have them msging you stating they have logged put that in your ticket too. Besides that only other thing you can do is report player to MS for cheating.

My two cents....

1. There are a lot of complaints on "combat logging" but there are many different definitions of it. As long as the game has a countdown that allows players to log out, it will continue. (To me it isn't combat logging if the game allows it by default)

2. Cheating isn't the correct term but what they are doing should have a cause and effect (I don't have a suggestion other than nothing shouldn't be the result of combat engagement)

3. Your style of play is considered by some camping or griefing so in the context of you seeing them cheating, they may see you as griefing them. Just because they start to attack, it shouldn't be assumed they are open to combat, but perhaps they are defending themselves or are unable to jump out as you are where they want to end up.

-So here is the opportunity to make a suggestion in the suggestion section of the forums regarding what you would like to see change.
*Oh and someone will comment that my definition above is wrong.....that's kinda the actual issue, too much ambiguity

I would like to see that, where do I find your feed?

This is pretty much just the textbook definition of griefing, and why I personally don't play in open anymore. I'm not interested in dealing with people who've decided that Elite is their own personal killbox.

Me too, after a negative exchange of xbox messages I play 99% in private and solo because the mindset of some seem to believe what they are doing is O K and anyone who hopes to avoid this is doing something wrong. In the OP's example I'm sympathetic however is obvious there is a lot more going on which has to be considered.

Typically this example happens in systems where players claim to be protecting this is that...but in addition to griefing, they are blocking content. Not to be confused with power play.

Whats funny is at the time I was flying a ship that may have had 1 hardpoint doing passenger missions in an area that certain players felt needed to be considered contested. So after being pulled into combat I hit the logout.....fortunately the timer hit before I died.....and somehow it was said that I combat logged....mind you I didn't even engage or shoot.

While we are expressing opinions here I will say that in cases like this your ship should stay damaged as it was when the log (accidental or intentional) takes place. How long? Well until it can, in game time, repair or get itself repaired. And if by some chance the ship that logged is destroyed (other than by another ship) the last attacker should get any credit for it.

I'm not a PvPer either but in my mind fair is fair. But hey, what do I know .....

FYI: It does stay damaged and it doesn't get destroyed so it would be destroyed at log-in.....unless it was destroyed during the log-out. If its destroyed...then its destroyed but they wouldn't get credit as honestly, if anyone attacks anyone else without a bounty, they should get a very HIG bounty. (That may be the case but I don't attack others so I wouldn't know that side of it)

No rewards should apply unless this falls under the intended gameplay of Power Play

Repair costs applies and it does require that you either use limpets or reach a repair station

The last straw for me was getting my ship destroyed by someone who claimed they were a pirate. The usual thing of course, pulls me out of SC without a word and being the nice guy I am, I didn't even deploy hardpoints because I like to give people a chance to explain themselves without worrying that I'll start shooting. He opens fire after a few seconds and since my ship wasn't very durable it went down quickly. I ask him why, he says he's a pirate and I tell him that I didn't even have cargo so that can't be true... some people don't really seem to grasp how pirates are meant to work, I think.

So for me, I think in addition to a bounty, there needs to be a label given that lasts for7-30 days for each situation that escalates the severity and that isn't lost by blowing up. See to me, if you are a player who seeks to ruin other players experiences based on your own created gameplay scenarios, then the consequence should be harsh to all game modes Players and NPCs because its not going to stop unless the consequences are extreme.

This could also apply to NPCs a little more than it does.....again excluding logical Power Play

Yeah I agree. As of right now there's nothing that stops people from trying to destroy any ship they find, the bounty certainly doesn't make them think twice and system security is a bit of a joke most of the time. Their only real threat is other players, and more often than not there aren't any around to push the griefers away anyways.

Combat logging is a pvp issue in open...which means its not my issue and I really couldnt care less what or even if they do anything about it. But if frontier says its wrong then it must be wrong I suppose ^
