How to take the sharpest turns and uturns in a dogfight ?

I like to reverse 100% while turning and use vertical thrust downwards. I have no idea if i'm helping or hindering my turn rate.

You are hindering it. But you have the right idea. Reverse to 50%, pull up, thrust down, all power pips to engines = fastest pivot rate in the game.

Just remember to throttle to 50% forward once the target is in view.

As a target approaches you, begin an incremental down throttle to keep your turn rate at optimal rates, but throttle back to -50% as soon as they pass you.

It's not really necessary to thrust down using this method - use down thrusters to prevent a head on collision but use sparingly in a busy fight. Thrusting blindly down will get you killed in conflict zones.

Not many know about the -50% turn trick. But I thought I'd share it. It's much faster than turning with +50%, because you're not constantly moving forward in the turn, but have the same turn rate as you're in the blue zone.

success in combat is ALL about the use of thrusters as well as the "normal" manouvering controls. Remember, you're flying a spaceship in zero gravity and not an aeroplane.

It's not just about being babysat, the problem is they tried newtonian only flight in Frontier, and honestly it was horrible and utterly uninteresting gameplay. In gameplay terms it felt like a step back from Elite. The aeordynamic style might not be realistic, but it is certainly dynamic. I'm also fairly certain I read that they had to dial back the Flight assist newtonian mechanics as they were too effective when realistically unrestricted.

The system in Frontier was crippled as it didn`t have full 6 degree of freedom...done properly like in the old Bab 5 game its much more interesting...as it is i feel like i`m playing a wierd ace combat game with no scenery or ground i have to worry about...i find it utterly utterly boring...if i want to play with aircraft style combat i have the full DCS setup i can go play with accurately models planes all i want.when i climb aboard a space ship i expect space combat not aerospace combat lite.

If you have flight assist on, it will already be doing what needs to be done with the vertical thrusters for you. All you need to worry about is keeping the speed in the blue zone, fill power to engines, and pitching in the direction you want to go.
