Newcomer / Intro How to use Flight Landing Overrides

I'm aware of this discussion about binding conflicts but my issue is that my override bindings have no effect what so ever.

I use an X-56 HOTAS and have the Left-Right-Up-Down thrusters bound to the throttles thumb stick (which is normal). Most of the time I have the main joystick's thumb stick set to "head-look" but while landing I would like to try having the "RY-AXIS" switch from looking Up/Down to thrusting forward and back.

I have the axis set in the "Flight Landing Override" section and it is not conflicting with the regular head movement while in normal mode however when I lower the landing gear the axis still makes the head move rather than fire the thrusters. Is there an 'activation' toggle or something for the "Flight Landing Override" I've missed?

Here's a screen shot of the setting I'm using:

Thanks,
Slarti.

Flight landing overrides only kicks in when the landing gear is down. If you want a toggle, use the alternate flight controls section of the controller setup.

Yes, I would like for the override to come into effect when the landing gear comes down however it unfortunately has no effect, even when the landing gear is down.

As per your suggestion I have now tried adding a "Use Alternate Flight Controls" button however this has no effect either.
Note there doesn't seem to be a "Thrust Forwards and Backwards Axis" option in the Use Alternate Flight Controls section but assigning an axis as the "Lateral Thrust Axis" doesn't seem to have an effect.

Is it even possible to re-assign a head-look axis?

After a little more tinkering I've found I can re-assign an existing axis that is already defined as a thrust direction to have it thrust in a different direction but don't seem to be able to introduce an additional extra axis. Is this meant to be the case?

Hi, this is how I've assigned mine.

You'll notice the joystick is configured the same as for normal flight plus I've used the hat switch to toggle thrust up/down/left/right. Also I added some keyboard commands as a backup. As was said earlier these are the global commands when the landing gear is lowered whether on a planet/moon/ or space station/object. My separate headlook controls still work when landing btw although I'm usually too busy trying to avoid crashing to play about with them!

Yeah, thanks Conde, but I am wanting to re-assign my headlook axis precisely because I have no need for moving my head while landing.

The more I look into this though the more I am starting to think it is not possible. I tried assigning the axis of my joystick that I use for "headlook to the regular flight control's thruster function and was surprised not to receive a "This axis is already assigned" notification. Then, when I tried using it in normal flight, it just moved my head and had no effect on the thrusters. Is this a bug?

I think it's not so much a bug as an omission of thruster control in the Alternative Flight Controls section. I remember it being mentioned several times in the forum but so far it hasn't been added. Send in a ticket, at least it will bring it to their attention.

No, I'm not concerned about the "Alternative Flight Controls".
My issue is that I CAN NOT REMAP THE HEAD-LOOK AXIS.

Does anyone know if it is even meant to be possible?
