How to use the Africa DLC and Game version 1.5.4

Does anyone know how to get the new Africa DLC to work with game version 1.5.4?
The new release 1.6.x crashes on startup but I already bought the DLC.
I really want to use the new DLC but not the new release until some of the bugs get worked out.

The Dlc informations are located in the update files, so it's not possible to play a new dlc without the newest patch.
Thanks. I thought that might be the case but was really hoping there was a workaround.
I can't get 1.6.x to work so this is really frustrating.
Even more frustrating is the fact that I can't figure out how to keep Steam from auto-updating Planet Zoo so I am constantly restoring from a backup. What a hassle.
Thanks again.
Cheers.

I'm sorry to hear that, are you sure you have the minimum specs to play? Idk if something changed with the engine update two days ago or maybe you need to verify the game files (Have some mods installed by any chance?).

There is a workaround for the update problem, just set the "Only update the game when i launch it" from the game properties in the steam library and then before launching the game you disable your internet connection, sadly this is the only way to play older version nowadays.

Thanks for the response and information, especially about the workaround.

I do have a couple of animal mods installed. I'll remove them and try the update again to see if that helps.

Thanks again for the help.

Mods broke with the update - that's why modders warnt about it on several occasions. When you only had animal mods and they were in their habitat and NOT in the trade center or quarantine, you should be fine.
When you had modded animals in the trade center or quarantine you have to wait until those mods are updated. You can, however, remove the mods and start another fresh zoo then.

If you had object mods, you will also not be able to enter zoos where you build with them. You have to wait for an update.

Be sure to ALWAYS clean your zoos and remove mods before a major update. Never have modded animals in the trade centre etc.

Wow, thanks for the great information and super quick response. I had just learned about animal mods and tried out a couple and completely missed the the warnings about them.
Regarding modded objects do you mean items downloaded from the workshop, like blueprints, or something completely different?
Thanks again for the help.
Cheers.

Is there an easy way to clean zoos of modded animals or do I have to visit each zoo and remove them habitat by habitat? I ask because visiting each zoo/habitat/center etc. will take a while...

Now you will probably not be able to enter the files. But if you want to clean your zoo next time, I'd recommend to open the zoo tab >> animals >> sort by species and then select all of them and release to the wild or sell.

When you have modded animals that have juveniles you will have to wait until they grow up. I had that and it was annoying, so I won't breed modded animals in the future and set them on contraception. ;)

Normally you wouldn't have to remove them from the habitat though, it's just a safer way. Animals in habitats should normally be gone when you remove the mods.

However, in quarantine and trade center they are stuck when you remove the mod and that will make your save file unloadable. Sometimes you can save the zoo when the mod is updated, but I would never depend on modders updating their files. Some modders probably won't update their animals or it will take a looong time.

Is there a specific "save file" for me to send?
If the game crashes at start i don't think you have a corrupted save file.

To delete the mods go to the steam library --> right click on planet zoo --> manages --> show local files --> go to win64 --> ovldata (in this folder delete all the animals folders (leave only the Gamemain and the contents folders), after that i suggest to verify your files via steam and you should be ready to play.
If you didn't delete the modded animals in your zoos before the update you should wait to the modders to update all the animals that you used, or have to delete this savefiles and start again.
Remember for the future and for the next big updates, always clean your zoos from the modded animals and delete your modded folders + verify the files via steam.

Sorry I overread that part.

Blueprints are no problem. There are modded prop parts (so pieces made by modders) , so if you downloaded these and used it in your builds (the obsolete mesh piece for example), that will also crash the game. For the specific metioned piece (mesh) there is an update though. If you have never used it, you don't need to worry :) The official mesh pieces by Frontier we have now are completly save.

And don't worry, we are all here to help. That's what the forum is for. :)

I just want to thank you again let you know that my problem was related to the mods. I released all the ones in the trading center and removed their directories from the game directory and then restarted the Steam. Once Steam updated the game everything worked as expected, except the modded animals that were in zoos were now missing.

Thank you again.
Cheers.
