Hey folks,
I'm loving using the Rift and it is AMAZING for flying/fighting etc but I find navigating the galaxy/system map a pain in the ass. Does anyone have any tricks to using this (as the map seems mouse bound, and looking at a point never picks it up!)

I wonder if anyone had seen this issue; I'm using the TM Warthog HOTAS with Vive and as soon as I use the TARGET software my keyboard is typing backwards during Galaxy Map searches. The characters appear in reverse order as if in a mirror. So pretty much I'm stuck in my current quadrant as I can't search for target systems unless I they are directly visible nearby.
Also, running Windows 10 Pro and Voice Attack. I've searched everywhere on the TM support site to no avail. This behavior is only present in the system when the TARGET virtual drivers are loaded with the .CFG mapping; I have the correct Windows keyboard locale mapped in the system.
Apologize for posting this question here since it isn't specifically Vive-related, but it does occur also when I run ED VR or the regular 2D version displayed on my monitor.
Check out this thread - plenty of explanations and videos on the matter. It's a merged thread with lots of very old posts from beta in the beginning, so here's the last explanation video I've found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5jG1w_YkDY&feature=youtu.be
Using the Warthog and Target without any issue in the galaxy map - sounds like you have some hold command involving the insert key mapped to one of the switches. Did you try flipping them and check if the problem persists?
this is propper !!Since it' possible to bind different devices inside the game, i always use a game pad for all the station menus and galaxy map operations, it's actually very intuitive.
When i'm done i leave my gamepad on the table and go back to my hotas, an X-55, that way i don't use too much the hats, they seem to get loosen pretty fast.
Have been testing a DK2 recently and do the same thing and still i find it very usefull.
Believe me, the Galaxy Map is great in VR once you understand how to use it. Unless you insist on using the mouse. Nothing in VR is great with a mouse.![]()
Yes,that's what I do, tooEndure. That's what I do. If you can, know the name of a system you want to look at and type it in the search. Also get used to using the controls for moving around the arrow pointer that is on the grid; you can move it in all axes independently. All the systems will have a line that joins to the grid plane; if you centre the arrow pointer on that line it will select the system. It's not as fast as using a mouse to point to the system but its the best alternative in VR as the looking at really doesn't work.
Wait, how do you select a target system? Navigating the map in VR is a charm, it's way better than on a monitor. A million times better.I've found it easier to navigate than ever, primarily because the display is huge. Fighterstick controls pitch and yaw, mini joystick on the throttle controls translation on the XY axis, with my "shift" button allowing translation on the Z axis with the mini joystick.
Do wish the map wouldn't start edge on, though.
