Newcomer / Intro How useful is Love tapping / ramming

So im fairly new im assumeimg the "shield graze" , "love tap" or blatent ramming / boost ramming is valid move if your shields are up may trying for a kill nudge cause guns ran dry and really wanted to turn a 2v1 into a 1v1 on that pass.
It seem pretty nerfed from E2 but
Depending on what factors? Is shield full protection? Weights, armour, shields??? Does it work pvp??? ,

My Vulture is the taran king. It cannot be damaged it seems so since I'm already so close I just ram them for good measure. It's a great way to kill that last little bit of hull or even knock his sheilds offline when they are almost there.

Of course you need a ship capable of shrugging it off.

When you ram NPCs, they don't recognise it, so you can keep ramming them until they're nearly dead, then finish them off with weapons to claim the kill. If they're pirates or if you inderdict them, they want to scan you before they do anything else. that's when you can keep ramming them because they keep coming back to try and scan you.

Just don't try it on Skimmers you find around surface bases ...

... but DO try it if you have a go at the Disable Megaship Turret missions :)

For cutter owners, ramming is known as the forward class 5 hardpoint. Great damage, IF you can ram. It’s not often that you can pull it off because the cutter is about as agile as a tectonic plate.

The other thing to keep in mind is to not ram anything near a station unless you can be certain you are doing less than 90.

Yes yes I know the speed limit is 100 but I am allowing for calibration errors in the security forces speed guns.

Ramming is absolutely a legitimate tactic. Boost and put 4 pips to shields before you attempt it - ramming damage is absolute, with no thermal or kinetic weapon modifier, so absolute shield strength determines how well your shields will hold up. Putting 4 pips in shields gives you something like 250% shield strength.

Damage dealt is determined by ship mass, your ship mass and impact velocity.
