How we could help ED, with the new AI tools??

Well, I have a question for you: How can we help ED, with the new AI tools, like GPT, DALL·E 2 or AudioGen, etc. To create new content or external applications to improve our experience in the game?

Or how these tools could ease the work and costs of ED developers.

I think the potential ahead of us is huge.

PS: excuse my english.

I don't think the development team needs help with this. If they do, they'll open a position one can apply for, if sufficiently qualified. There are regular channels for filing suggestions, and they interact with the community here on the forums.

AI is potentially interesting e.g. for those who wish for more interesting Thargoid or NPC behaviour and I am positive the devs have an eye on that. The infrastructure needed to make this happen is not trivial. What you see on the surface of ChatGPT and the likes is only the tip of an iceberg. (I said in another context recently this would save some money for new designs, if existing enemies could just be made more intelligent. That was a bit sloppy.)

There is nothing "we" can do to help with a chatbot.

The tech has amazing potential I'll agree but I don't see it getting into games for a long while. Imagine instead of scripting every word an NPC says and having each line recorded by an actor, you just give it a "personality guideline" and combine it with some of the voice generation tech being developed. AI could be running the storyline of a campaign instead of a scripted railroad. This could lead to much better gaming experiences and amazing replayability, as long as we don't end up with racist characters and AI GMs that are trying to commit genocide. Both of which have displayed by AI chatbots. 😅

I don't follow the tech so I don't know how resource intensive it is so I don't know if it's even possible to fit it in a game now. But I can see it getting in there in the future.

OA already asked GPT, and the answers were not surprising.

Jeeze, are people really asking these questions of Chatbots? It's not an oracle, it just parrots whatever it digs up on the 'net.🤦‍♂️ It's literally an echo chamber.
And that is exactly its problem. And that it lacks the checks and balances of a human interpreter. One can imagine, from a mere technical viewpoint, to have such a thing in a game isolated from the whims of public sentiment and the failings to interpret it, and fed only with content relevant to the story one wants to unfold. But then the developer is burdened with creating the equivalent of what the entire www has compiled over years. Most people who play with these chat bots today have no imagination of the massive underbelly. I was more thinking of learning algorithms which can be implemented in a small framework, those also exist.

If the dev team has resources for that within the short patience of players who moan seems doubtful, unless it has been in the plans all along. It could indeed fit in brilliantly with the Thargoid war expansion. But again, it still is a tall order by any standard. And you can't help from the outside, unless you're so highly qualified that you're invited to join the inside. This applies to nobody who just recently got fascinated with a new technology and "sees the possibilities".

Imagine a fluff text generator being added to Elite and no two NPCs will say the same thing. Only similar enough to get the mission/gameplay beats right. That alone would add a lot of individuality to the game. Only issue I see is implementing this in a resource friendly and reliable manner. Wouldn't want people to get garbled garbage just because the chatbot is currently unreachable.

See post#3. ;)

FD could replace users with the chatbot so the forum doesn't get flooded with silly threads.

Hm. Looking at you here, Children of Raxxla!

Absolutely. The AI "art" ones are even worse in my opinion, people thinking an AI has miraculously drawn a 'Tom Hanks dressed as santa in The Hobbit' but everything they are using is literally ripped off from someone else, scraped from copyrighted images. Stolen.
