How will aliens differ from humans when it comes to technology, ship design, etc?

I think these are questions better left for add-ons since the initial release will feature humans only (not sure about possible rumours etc. of Thargoids).

I'm hoping they don't say a damned thing about what's out there in the black. Assuming there's anything out there at all. I would dearly love to be the first to come across an unknown alien race and live long enough to get back and tell someone about it.

Yeah I agree...

It would pretty amazing if an explorer just stumbled on an alien race... jaw drop moment!

Discovery is about the unknown, lets have some surprises! So no concept art, newsletter info...

...there could be rumours etc via in game newsfeed, but I prefer if players found the content rather than the game telling us about it in advance.

This.
Though I did miss the variety of aliens in from classic elite when I got into FE and FFE, so I personally hope the galaxy is teeming with alien life, and that we just have to find it.

Yes, but these are hints only. It will be interesting to see what they actually put in the game and introduce later on. :)

Actually I seem to remember MB saying on a Dev Diary that there wont any dangerous rogue AI.

Something along the lines of.." AI is considered so dangerous that its one of the few things the different alliances agree not to produce and work together to fight against"

Possibilities of Aliens was left open ended, and the Thargoids would make their presence felt at a later date...(and the Thargoids are all female...;)

That doesn't rule out a rogue AI as a dangerous enemy that the factions temporarily unite against.
Just saying...

I seem to remember that there was a war against AIs, after which they were made illegal, but that there may be surviving AIs out there somewhere. I'm guessing that's DB leaving the option open for a possible expansion or injected event.

I really hope no details at all are given out prior to players discovering them.

I presume that there might be one or two Babylon 5 fans on here. Remember the episode when the exploration vessel stumbled upon the First Ones out beyond the Rim? I want that sense of wonder and excitement and mystery to happen in game (or if they're like the Shadows on the other hand, pure terror)

And there is your hook. A technology made illegal just screams for an arc where some rogue element experiments with it.

I agree with the idea that we should not be informed of aliens, we should get to discover them in game.
