How would I go about recording a 3D video of E:D?

I got a GearVR for my birthday some time ago, and since I recently got back to playing ED I was wondering if I could combine the two somehow. Now, unfortunately, the GearVR doesn't seem to be that useful for actually playing the game (plus, as a KB+M user, I wouldn't be able to play this without seeing my real-life surroundings anyway).

But ED, with it's fairly decent visuals and fantastic audio, is really immersive, and this is probably compounded immensely with VR so I really want to experience it somehow... And, I thought... "it would be cool if I could (at least) record some clips of me playing the game and then be able to watch them as a 360 video in GearVR"... Now I'm wondering if what I'm trying to do is at all possible.

So, basically, I'd like to record a 360 (probably not even a full 360!) video from the perspective of my CMDR. Is this possible / supported? Can this be hacked somehow?

Similar but different.
IL-2 and uh Cliffs of Dover have these modes where you record “tracks”.
What you did, what happened around you etc.

And then you can play back those tracks in the game and set up cinematic shots.
Regardless of VR or no VR “track” recording would be useful for Elite cinematographers everywhere.

Dunno about GearVR but I have successfully used Vive display mirroring to record size-by-side footage of the game then played it back for an observer using DeoPlayer.

As for the “track” recording, it is a nice feature of other games which has been requested here before.
