How would you expand certain animal familys?

After the thread with the needed animals i thought about, that will i dont see some animals as needed to complete sections themed around their continents or to have a good representation of that continent, they would be really great to expand the diversity of their taxonomic group in the game. We allready have threads about birds and monkeys in particular, but i feel like besides our old pals the elephants most group could really benefit from some touchups.

Argueably the only group that could be seen as "overrepresented" (as if anything could be in this game) would be the canids, but even there are some obvious inclusions.
We are still lacking on foxes, i personally really want to see the red fox, but i know atleast someone hear would LOVE to see the silverfox in the game, and you know i dont blame them ;)
Theres also a canid for all continents right now, with only Southamerica missing, making the Maned wolf a great inclusion.

The secound most decisive group are bears. Many people think we have enough, and i would agree, i would be happy with no more bears, but again, adding one last bear for southamerica would give us a bear for everywhere. Ofcourse im talking about the spectacled bear with its cute glasses like eyemarkings. Funfact! There german name is "Brillenbär" which literally means "Glassesbear" or "bear wearing glasses".

Honing in on the third of the top 3 we have the cats. For a long time i was of the mindset that we dont need more cats, cause have one have all, right?
But now building my zoo, im cramming everything full with them. They are just beautiful animals and its really fun to build their enclosures.
But if your thinking im gonna say leopard now you have been fooled! What i think we need more in the game are small cats, 3 to be exact. I would nominate the eurasian lynx as the most important inclusion, followed by the aquatic fishing cat and the adorable ocelot. Small cats are very diverse in the ways they can be used, as they are small enough to fit into a generic animal house with a little outdoor cage, but still big enough to draw attention in a bigger habitat, aka the best kind of animal, atleast for me. The three i choose all represent a different biome, as well as a different biogeographic region, the pale arctic, the indomalayan and the neotropics. The fact that 2 out of 3 of them are heavily underrepresented seals the deal even more.
But for our final small cat i think we simply need the cougar in the game. Funfact! The cougar is despite its size not of the same genus panthera as the other large cats. One of the more notable differences is that this locked them out of the ability to roar, so instead their noises sound like a woman being murderd in cold blood. Nature sure can be creative sometimes.

Having talked about our main carnivores, we should also take a look at our herbivore friends. First of all i want more bovids.
Its criminal the only ones we have are the bison and a testosteron filled beast of rage and anger, that isnt even held in zoos for that region to often.
There are some cool choices, like the euopean bison (yes if you show me two pictures i can actually spot the difference, it isnt hard), african forest buffalo or the gaur, but i feel like we are best served with one domestic breed thats still exotic to us, for example the yak or the watussi cattle, and the anoa.
As the smallest living wild bovine they are only found on the island of sulawesi, the home of the babirusa and lush tropical forests. Growing only to a meter in height and sheeding most of their hair as they grow up, the Anoa would be a more then unique animal, aswell as a welcome reminder for more casual players, as they are facing a large thread right now, with their subspecies, the mountain anoa, arguably allready being extinct in the wild with only one male left in captivity.

But talking about sulawesi, lets talk about pigs!
Right now we have the warthog from the african savannah and the babirusa from the indonesian rainforest, but theres still so much more to be left desired!
Most notably would be the desert dwelling collared peccary from the new world, the red river hog, a beautiful red pig from the tropical africa and the beast, the legend, the black terror of the night, the wild boar from eurasia and everywhere else they have stranded as domestic pigs. But a pig no one is talking about is the Chacoan peccary! Its the largest and most threatend of the 3 peccary species and has been introduced to northamerican and european zoos to establish a breeding population. They live in the Gran Chaco, dry forests in the lower parts of southamerica and are one of the most prominent species of the region. They also look quite distinct to the collared peccary, primarly do to the size difference and their thicker, longer bristle, so having both could actually be a viable option, with the common zoo animal and the newer but more threatend.

The last group i want to mention for now is Caprinae, with sadly only the dallsheep currently in the game. Which is a shame, as the group is home to a wide variety of ungulates and zoo staples.
Starting of, the most obvious one is the african pigmy goat. If we get any more domestic animals, this should be one of them, as they are just super common in zoos and just fun to watch climbing and jumping around.
For the wild animals i will go with one per continent, just kidding, asia alone has more then enough commonly requested goats, namly the takin, the beautiful mountain cow thats not actually a cow, the markhor, a cental asian goat with funny horns and zootycoon classic, the japanese serow, heavily requested as another japanese animal and a cute smaller caprid and my personal wish, the himalayan thar, the main prey of the snowleopard and one of the few animals tough enough to live in the higher alptitudes of mount everest.
Another fun and acutally not to uncommon pick would be the chinese goral. In apperance and behaviour they are like a mix of a goat and an antelope, and also just really cute.
1627980650344.png

But thats not all, moving to africa we have the barbary sheep, a beautiful orange, bearded mountain goat, that is commonly held in zoos with baboons or vultures. Its inclusion would enable some beautiful mountainous african habitats, that we simply dont have any animals for right now, as the african mountainside is not present in the game at this point.
In europe we meet the alpine ibex and the charming chamois, one is the secound most requested european animal in the meta wishlist and the other one is its smaller cousin, sharing their domain but standing out with their beautiful white and black fur.
Lastly, lets talk about murrica. As far as i know there are no caprids in southamerica, but the northamerican mountain goat and the muskox are both great coldweather champions, that would bring an edge of toughness and ellegance to our mountainous or tundra sections.
As you can see, caprinae is a super fun group of animals that we are seriously lacking, and lets be honest there would be nothing better to build rocky habitats for then some climbing goats.

So thats it for now, maybe i will edit it later down the line when i have the motivation to go over other groups like deer, monkeys or marsupials, but i feel like these 6 groups are for one the three most controversial and the three that no one gives a lot of attention to, which is a shame, as all 6 groups still have great members to add to the game.
Especally if we remember, that in the average a zoo has about 250 different species of vertebrates, with 50 of them being mammals, so theres still alot to be added to the game to reach that number.
But what do you guys think? What groups do you feel like are neglected in discussions and do you agree with my choices? what representatives would you have choosen?
Or do you even disagree with some of my choices? I wanna hear it, the more detail the better so we can have a nice and good discussion about the topic.
I feel like it helps atleast me to really understand my wants and wishes for the game, and my top 20 that i posted in the metawishlist has been quite outdated now for a while, just because im shifting my priorites and actually am starting to have more educated opinions, both about whats common in zoos and what animals would be fun to add in general

On a more serious note:

Suidae: peccary, red river hog, wild boar

Deer: axis deer (because it's tropical), red deer, moose

Antelopes: Scimitar oryx, arabian oryx, addax, blackbuck, giant eland

Felines: sand cat, caracal, ocelot, leopard

Canines: I'd remove the dingo

Hyenas: striped hyena

Ratites: Greater rhea, emu, kiwi

Xenarthra: any tamandua, armadillo and sloth

Caprines: barbary sheep, ibex (any), bighorn sheep

Equines: Persian onager, przwalsky's wild horse

I agree in most cases but would add the lynx, the takin and maybe switch the onager with the Somali wild donkey. (Btw every time when I use the other word for donkey, it doesn't show up).

Well that's just @s$innine. The same happens for a certain substrinf of "salTwater" in saltwater crocodile. I think the game and forum need to lighten up on certain words

Anyway, as a resident Australia connoisseur I'll jump in here to discuss the marsupials. I think people often seem to forget that marsupials aren't just a family like cats or deer, but a whole important subsection of mammals spanning some 7 living orders, which really puts into perspective how poorly represented they are in game. The two species we have gotten so far are fantastic and absolutely essential, but there's just so much more that we're missing. That being said, the bare minimum needed in terms of additions in my opinion is:
  1. Tasmanian Devil
  2. A wombat
  3. An additional macropod, either a wallaby or a tree kangaroo
This is about as much as I'm expecting from PZ (maybe even less), but I'll do a more indepth examination of each marsupial group below including lots of unlikely but viable additions that I'd really love to see.

As the largest living marsupial carnivore and an extremely iconic species, the appeal of the Tasmanian Devil is plainly obvious and it's the biggest non-negotiable here. We've already gotten two marsupial herbivores, so if we were only going to get a single additional species, as sad as that would be, it should definitely be the devil. In a scenario of long extended support however, there are also some other good options for carnivorous marsupials (order Dasyuromorphia). Quolls are the closest living relatives of devils and any of the three larger species (Eastern, Western or Spotted-tailed Quoll) would be a great choice, as would that unique and beautifully-patterned myrmecophage, the Numbat.

Before moving onto Diprotodontia, where most of the rest of the viable choices lie, there's relatively few species that would fit well with the game's current mechanics from the other 5 marsupial orders. The only two I can imagine being added are the Greater Bilby (of order Peramelemorphia, and even then you'd need to build faux nocturnal houses for them if you wanted to be realistic) and the Virginia Opossum (Didephimorphia).

Diprotodontia is the largest marsupial order both in terms of species diversity and the average size of species, and therefore it far and away has the most options of any marsupial order when it comes to viable options to be added to Planet Zoo. Skipping over the great diversity of Australo-Papuan possums given unfortunately I don't see much of a chance of any making it in, we come to what's, for me personally, the most essential additions for the marsupials after the devil - wombats. Two of the three species of wombat are kept in captivity, the Common Wombat and Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat, and I really have no preference for which one we get.

Then we move onto macropods, and if there's any marsupial group that desperately needs multiple representatives, it's this one. More than just plain old kangaroos and wallabies, there are 70+ species of macropod which makes them more specious and diverse than deer despite being confined to a single continent, and as such I can only highlight a few species and groups here. First and foremost are wallabies, which are essentially just all mid-sized and small members of the family Macropodidae and therefore covers a large range of animals. The two most popular suggestions for wallabies are the Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby and Bennett's Wallaby, which are both distinctive and great choices and would cover the minimum representation for the group. For an additional wallaby species, I feel the Quokka would be very popular while also filling another size category below the other two wallabies.

After the wallabies, the most requested macropods are the tree kangaroos, and rightfully so. They're delightfully weird, and the most distinct members of the macropod clan. Which species you prefer depends on where you're from, Matchie's bring the prevalent zoo species in North America while Goodfellow's dominates Australasia and Eurasia.

As a final suggestion, here are two less commonly suggested macropods I'd still really like to see. First is the Kangaroo Island Kangaroo, an island subspecies of the Western Grey Kangaroo that is the smallest of all the great kangaroos, with their stockier build and thick dark fur making them very different from the Red Kangaroo we already have in the game. Then there's the Long-nosed Potoroo, which is found in several European zoos, only in a single sanctuary in the USA, while at the same time being one of the most common marsupials in captivity in Australia. They'd provide representation for one of the two smaller macropod families, the Potoroidae.

Long-nosedPotorooSlider.jpg

As I said I only really expect the three minimum additions I listed earlier, but it's still fun to speculate on what a more complete marsupial roster could be like. After all, Frontier's Zoo Tycoon: Ultimate Animal Collection definitely had the best marsupial representation of any zoo game I've seen (kangaroos, wombats, koalas, possums, devils and numbats), even if they were mostly just looped exhibit animals, so it's not completely out of the realm of possibility.

For the canines, the selection we have is the bomb. All are amazing (renaming the gray wolf to northeastern [western? I don't remember] would be better). The only canines I want right now are:
  1. Gray fox
  2. Red fox
  3. Maned wolf
  4. Swift fox
Not as wanted but I wouldn't turn them away are the red wolf and the coyote.

Going into felines, the following I want:
  1. Ocelot
  2. Bobcat
  3. Puma
The only other ones I can think of aren't housed in my local zoo, which is the leopard (shocking, right?) and any European lynx.

Now, marsupials. My zoo doesn't have many marsupials (actually, none on display as of right now, I believe). So, here's my list:
  1. Wombat (any species)
  2. Tasmanian devil
  3. Virginia opossum
Now, deer is another story, and I have a bunch I'd like to see:
  1. White tailed deer
  2. Musk deer
  3. Red deer
  4. Moose
  5. Fallow deer
  6. Pére David's deer
Now into the primates. I enjoy watching them, especially the smaller monkeys and the lemurs. Here is what I think would be good:
  1. Coquerel's sifaka
  2. Siaming
  3. Howler monkey (any)
  4. Cottontop tamarin
  5. Vervet monkey
  6. Lion tamarin
Now for small animals:
  1. Raccoon
  2. White-nosed coati
  3. North American porcupine
  4. Prehensile tailed porcupine
  5. Capybara
  6. Agouti
  7. Asian small-clawed otter
  8. North American river otter
And now for some birds (those that can fit the current mechanics):
  1. Greater rhea
  2. Curassow
  3. Whooping crane
  4. Shoebill
Ok, the bears. Most of the more important bears we have in the game. The only 2 I would add are:
  1. Spectacled bear
  2. American black bear
Now, moving into hooved animals, there are a few I'd like:
  1. Red river hog
  2. Wild boar
  3. Ankole cattle
  4. Masai giraffe
Now, pinnipeds, I can only think of the California sea lion as a good choice.

Reptiles are a different story. To start, I will also include exhibit-sized species, as well (these are the ones I think would be best):
  1. American alligator
  2. Reticulated python
  3. Green anaconda
  4. Cottonmouth
  5. Coral snake
  6. Copperhead
  7. Alligator snapping turtle
  8. Black mamba
  9. Green mamba
  10. King cobra
  11. Emerald green python
Moving on to the amphibians now. The ones they have are nice, but here are a few more I'd like:
  1. Strawberry poison frog
  2. Blue poison frog
  3. Caecillian
  4. Axololt

And that's all I can think of. I think this is a well rounded roster and can totally liven up the game. 56 new species, with 42 as habitat species and 14 exhibit species
