Depends on who you ask.
If you ask long-time diehard Elite fans (like me), the game's cool, but there's still a lot missing feature- and contentwise. If you ask most of the 'others' - the End Of The World has come.
The games great ,I've had very few problems with it considering it's a WIP.
However the wait for the new content is killing me, I so desperately want the FPS and planetary landings expansions now but it's a long way off.
The one other thing is the cheating going on, this poses the biggest threat to the game but I am still confident that FD will deal with this.

This - Zieman has once again hit the nail on the head.
This is my first Elite game, and I think things are going great and are only going to get better
