How's the piracy now with all the miners out there?

Depending on the system and the state, very worth it. I can't recall how much I got for the opals I heisted the other night, but it was well worth it, even with as 380k fine for being scanned by the cops.

It's great when the miners don't combat log on you.

(Frankly though, yeah. All of the new minables are worth stealing.)

So detect hotzones and patrol them?
Wouldn't it be for hotzones, miners would be undetectable at the mining location.

I don't think they'd be undetectable, but you'd have to already be in the vicinity when they drop in (or just be really lucky)
Miners usually pick a direction to scan and go. It's not long before you're 100km away from the drop in point. So any pirate dropping into the hotspot isn't going to find you. (again, unless they're really lucky)

Which leads to my concerns with the beta.
If you want piracy to be a viable playstyle especially PvP
wise you need tools to detect those players.

Which branches off into two design directions:
Make players influence the BGS and create POIs accordingly to state (like distress calls etc.)
and give people tracking and stalking tools (also breathes in life for those dirty BHs).

I would guess hitting pristine rings in the bubble would be a good start?
 
Ever checked how many there are?
Without a solid lead, like the CG it is very unlikely to find people.

Honestly I cant think of a new mechanic that would help you track down cmdrs in normal space.

Maybe use gal map to look for trade routes? I forget if you can filter for commodities like opals etc?

Yeah player trade would be an indicator,
i'd prefer to be able to "haywire" the nav-beacons
via recon limpets for a certain amount of time,
yielding notifications on players and where they drop to.
(Assassination missions already do the same, scan beacon,
get planet location, scan for POI)

Agreed. Though I wouldn't want something like a pirates version of a pulse wave scanner. That feels too gamey.
Something that would make more sense would be a way to track transactions. So you can find 'hot spot' stations where there's spike in sales of void opals or LTD's. Now you know the system/area to hang around with your cargo scanner. :)

Or you simply add a signal source type to the DSS scanner everyone now has.
You still have to manually swipe the system and give some use to this tool.
However the bounty hunter still would require a "hunt mission" tipping him off to the current location.

While I like the idea of some player driven/created USS's, I don't like the idea of a "miner here" USS. That just seems too easy to me.
 
It would be really simple: detonating an asteroid could create a transient SS lasting, say, one minute XD

I mean, those are loud.

Yup, some player impact on the environment should make for detectable sources.
That'd be somewhat "in lore" and workable without making miners too obvious.
Core mining thus would be high risk and high reward.

I just went to the drop-off point where opals are going for 1.6M, and judging by FD's respons yesterday, there will be more of those if the stars are right.

But yoy could definitely troll hot spots, especially in your mamba. It's fast and can cover a wide patrol area.
