HR 8799

Yes, plenty of people have been there; it's only 129 LY away from Sol, so it's well inside the Bubble. The system is inhabited, with two orbital outposts in the system.

This thread was posted just a few days ago by Cmdr Monk, following his in-game visit to that system.

I do not know if any of the system's in-game planets are intended to correlate with the IRL planets detected.

Hi Folks,

Got back into the Sidey today and headed outer to HR 8799 to look at the system. It certainly could be the real life system with four large gas giants on the outer edge of the system:

Looking at the four outer ones we see the furthest with an orbital period of 164,253 days or 450 years and a semi-major axis of 67.43AU...this matches well with the real thing...460 years and 68AU.

The next planet in has an orbital period 82,145 days (225 years) and 42.48AU. The real planet has an orbital period of 190 years and 38AU.

The third planet in has an orbital period of 41,054 days (112 years) and 26.76 AU. The real planet has an orbital period of 100 years and 24AU.

Finally the fourth planet in has an orbital period of 16,422 days (45 years) and 14.53AU. The real planet has an orbital period of 45 years and 14AU.

Given the accuracy of the ED system I suspect that FD knew something about this system when creating the in-game galaxy.

Pretty cool!

I did not go there Frawd because of the next post after mine which contained the system maps. Glad you went there to check it out. :)
