HTC Vive Never Finishes Loading Main Game

So this is really driving me nuts. If anyone has seen this, I could really use the help...


The Problem:

When I try to play any of the normal, non-training, non-PvP game modes (Open Play, Private Group, or Solo Play) with SteamVR, the loading screen (with the spinning orange ship) goes on indefinitely.


Things I Can Do:
  1. Get to the normal Main Menu screen on the Vive
  2. Play Training Missions and Arena on the Vive
  3. Play Open/Group/Solo game modes in the normal non-VR mode
  4. Play all my other games on the Vive


Things I've Tried:
  1. Restarting SteamVR
  2. Restaring the computer
  3. Uninstalling/Reinstalling Elite: Dangerous via Steam
  4. Uninstalling/Reinstalling Elite: Dangerous via Frontier's launcher
  5. Deleting all the 'Frontier Development' folders under AppData/ and reinstalling
  6. Again restarting the computer between all of those steps


What's even weirder is this WAS working. I'm not sure what changed that caused this to happen or how to fix it. :(

Anyone have any other ideas? I'm at the end of my rope here.

I wonder if it's your anti-virus, and more specifically your firewalling component of that? I've had my Kaspersky prompting about the ED executable trying to access the internet, and in VR you can't see the prompt! I turned it off to verify that from the Taskbar- it worked once disabled, so I worked it out!

I've definitely seen the 'unseen pop-up ruins VR experience' issue, but I'm here on the desktop watching the loading screen continue indefinitely without any pop-ups. Good idea to try and turn off the firewall, though. I tried it and no luck. Still forever loading. *sigh*

Alas, Open/Group/Solo game modes all run fine without VR mode on. :/ Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Oh, hey! I figured it out.

dutchy2000 gave me an idea. I may not be able to load in VR, but since I can load the game in 2D, perhaps the problem is location-based. I loaded the game (I was on a moon at a starport) and flew off the planet and into the middle of empty space and logged off, then tried again in VR and it worked!

If anyone else runs into this problem, move your ship off planet in the normal 2D game, then try VR again. Hope that helps someone else that gets into the same predicament!

I'd still open a ticket. You might help someone else in this situation.
