HTC Vive on Black Friday sale?

I bought one at Elgiganten today :)
IMHO it's better then the Rift, which I sold today as I could not stand the god rays.

Bought one today too. Definitely not plug and play. And 5 power outlets? But the immersion is out of this world! :)

Do you know how and when we receive the code for the free games? Tilt Brush, Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption.

Hey Globus, I'm happy to hear you finally went VR. Congrats & Enjoy! [up]

Now it's coal for Christmas.

Lucky bawstawrds.-...

Aye commanders. :)

Mind blown. Oddly I'm not registering any of these annoying so called "artifacts". I thought after reading so much about them, that I wouldn't be able to see past them. But I honestly don't register any visual drawbacks, apart from the big hit in resolution of course. But I'd sell that any day for the immersion of actually being in my spaceship.

First time I booted E: D and looked around my ship and out at the station I was literally grinning out loud. I expect the awe to wear off soon (or my wife will kill me... :))

Yes it's amazing.

Try doing some surface reconnaissance.

So...

- Get a fast ship
- Find a nice ice world
- Turn up the terrain detail
- Fly at 10km
- Go external view....
- Then just look down at the planet checking out the terrain

I've discoverd this amazing experience via looking for alien ruins and the like. But it's worth trying even without something to look for, if you find a good planet it can be really breathtaking, and it'll give you a new found respect for how wonderful the terrain procgen can be. :)

As sad as it sounds, I wish there were more things in ED that require you to just look at stuff! I mean if I have a goal I can sit there for ages just checking stuff out and wondering at how great it all looks as I fly at mach 2 over the surface.

Will do Commander. :) Still getting my vertigo legs mind.

Regarding settings. I just set in game setting to VR-Ultra and set off. Is there much to gain by tinkering with the different 3rd party tools? Supersampling and what not? It would be nice if text could be a bit clearer.

Don't worry - it won't. Just try going back to a flat screen after a few days and you'll be assuaged of that fear (about the awe wearing off - I'm not sure you wife won't want to kill you anyway). It's amazing how tiny everything looks - like looking at toys through a window.

I think if you go looking for problems, in either the Vive or the Rift, you may find them, so I recommend not looking for them and just enjoy the scale and presence of flying a spaceship. [yesnod]

PS. don't forget to try the SRV. I recommend landing on a planet and parking your SRV near or under your ship, and then step out of the SRV and look around - g awesome!

Well there's this : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/274325-How-to-get-Elite-in-VR-looking-CRYSTAL-CLEAR-D

But I think it might be a bit out of date. I don't think the chaperone tool is required anymore since Frontier added the HMD setting to ED, I'm no expert but I believe it does the same thing.

As for other settings it depends entirely on your graphics card and what it can cope with, but I do 1.0 supersampling and 1.5 HMD sampling. This clears the text up. To do 1.5 though you may need to drop the VR quality.

Would also say orange is not a good choice since it require both red and green pixels which you can almost make out. Green HUDs look much better in VR, though obviously this can have a downside of messing up radar colours and such.

I would also say opt into the "SteamVR" beta, it provides an option "Allow asynchronous reprojection" which you want enabled. I disable "Allow interleaved reprojection", it seems like you only want one of these two options selected, having both results in a significant drop in performance for me.

Some experimentation might be required, like you can up the HMD supersampling to make it all super clear but overall performance is going to suffer, just need to find what suits you.

Try Google Earth VR, just came out, it's a free download. :)

And another thing for my to do list. :) Thanks.

Thanks Bitstorm. And so the tinkering began... :D

You mention 2 different supersamplings. I assume one is in-game and the other is ED-Profiler? I've got a 1080 from Asus and haven't reached it's max at all by setting in-game setting to Ultra, so I think some additional SS might be in order.

Will give Google Earth VR a go. :)

Ok. Initial mucking about done. I ended up ignoring 3rd party tools and only using in-game tweaking. Supersampling at 1.25 and HMD quality at 1.5 cleaned up the screen and text nicely. I'll have to wait and see if it's too much for surface play. Time for bed. :)
